Default Rolex 24 at Daytona.....Could be a wet and dry race...Who do you like to win?

Looks like the weather may come and go.....

Perhaps the crew will be a bigger part of the winning car with equipment decisions? :

18 minutes to Green!

Thoughts?

about to start now. I'm pulling for the brumos team. It would make for a great story since this is the first race without Bob Snodgrass. RIP

I am enjoying watching it. The 01 car sure has a driver lineup! I was so psyched, I had to take the Mosler out for a spin.

Question for you guys - I don't know how fast a DP car is relative to others, so if you put the following cars on the same track how would you rank them? Maybe in this order, or is the DP as fast or faster than a GT1 car like the C6R?

Are there any C6R corvettes entered in the 24 hours of daytona?

Taking Mid Ohio Sports Car Course, which has a big fast straight, elevation, transition, etc.. making a good "standard" I believe:

ALMS P2 1:08.510 (Porsche RS Spyder)
ALMS P1 1:09.435 (Audi R10)
ALMS GT1 1:16.588 (Corvette C6R)
Grand Am DP 1:18.374 (
ALMS GT2 1:19 951 (Ferrari F430 GT)
Grand Am GT 1:25.329
NASA TTU record: 1:28.251 Danny Popp Corvette C5

The IRL IndyCar Series record is a 1:07.3 or so, and the Indy Pro Series cars ran 1:14s.. the rumored "fastest lap ever" is said to be by a Champ Car at a 1:06.9 in testing.

I checked the teams last week and the Rolex 24 site listed 6 Corvette Teams. Today there were 2 Corvette teams listed - the 42 and 43 cars of Team Sahlen. The 42 didn't start. One Corvette in the Great American Race..... . No C6R.

The Nonomaker brothers were signed up to run both cars. Three brothers and Mr. Saleen in two cars.

They have been consistently in the low 20s - 4 laps back last I checked - just looking to be on the track tomorrow afternoon, I guess.

With all the recent rain in the third hour, it's a hoot seeing all the cars with slicks trying to get back to the pits for a tire change.

I can't imagine how frustrating it is for those that are out of the race early. All that preparation.

I had a sort of "pre-event" post in the Southeast area, and I've posted a few pics, have a TON taken, but need to resample for the web, etc., plus I'll have a bunch more from tomorrow (with better weather it appears) - my thread:

Team Sahlens brought th 42 car for "parts" only. Listed in the entry so it can have garage space. They are running the 43. The scanner is under the 42 channel. Got to hang out with those guys and talk for about an hour on fri afternoon. Got some pretty good pics today and will post them later.

So far the event has been interesting to say the least. Changes in weather have made it quite challenging.

On another note, those Pontiac GXP-R's sound really flat.
More to follow.

Thanks for the update. Being at the 24 is much more fun than watching on TV. I went to several while stationed in Jax.

Tis true..

I went in 1987 and 1988, and then 1992 - 2007... hopefully I will not miss it next year. (Though this year was by choice)

Still a long way to go.. and the way it seems everyone is driving, lots of things are going to go bump in the night.
