Default Painted Calipers ???

Will they withstand the heat of racing? What brand of paint and how?
Powder coat?

Any PICs?

I can't absolutely guarantee my powdercoating on track day calipers, but I have several track day customers who flog them pretty hard and they are still holding up fine. Even a set of yellow stoptechs I did for a BMW that had over 8 hard weekends before he decided to change their color.

Or just paint/powdercoat them black. Doesn't show the dirt/brake dust near as bad as the OE gray.

Have a good one,
Mike

I had mine painted and they looked great until the 2nd track day. Unless you're going to scrub them clean after each track day, the brake dust starts to bake on and turn them black.

I painted mine a couple times trying to keep them looking nice.
Paint WILL NOT hold up.

I don't know about powdercoat but if it is going to be a track car,
who cares what they look like.
$$ better spent on things that make you go faster.

Now as for my Z06 garage queen.
Them calipers are pristeen as are the wheels. Clean the crap out of em all the time.

We'll I had a set of Wilwoods powdercoated red by LG and they held up awesome. I mean don't get me wong, they got dirty and had some stains here and there, but overall, they looked pretty good after a couple solid years of HPDE. I wouldn't expect them to look the way they looked in the box after a couple years, but I personally liked the matching red on my C5Z.

But, I will say the my C6Z "painted" calipers have paint coming off around the bleeder valves and any contact has caused the paint to come off. So I would say based on personal experience, the powder coat is much more durable and is worth it if your willing to spend a couple extra $$$ and not expect them to look new after 2 years.

My old Porsche's Brembos held up fine for DE's, but they were, of course, powdercoated by the factory. I seriously doubt those $30 DIY paint kits have any chance of putting up with multiple DE's on a Vette.

As for Powdercoating - my MAIN concern is adding another heat insulation layer to the body of the caliper, thereby keeping the heat trapped inside the caliper even more. It may not be that significant of a difference, but it just sounds counterproductive when we are always talking on this forum about overheating pads, melting dust boots and cracking rotors.

Lastly - we all know that OEM C5/C6 calipers will spread over time, causing pad taper and deteriorated braking performance. I would hate to have a set of them painted up nice and pretty, only to have to just throw them away when they got too spread out to use any longer.

The anodizing on my Wilwoods changed color. They went fron Black to copper colored. When I bought rears I told LG to get me the copper colored ones :o:o I forgot they were black. He said they don't make them. I said I am looking at them. He said your burned the black off them.:o I went to look at a picture I took when I put them on and they were black. They said the rears won't turn that color. They did start to go copper also but I haven't run the car enough lately. Forget paint.

The paint which PBR used doesn't stand up to track use.

I thought mine were a bit cooked:

DIY duplicolor black with a couple HPDE's holding up great, just wash them and their shiny again
