Running different makes of tires on same car?
Looking for opinions on running one make of tires, say Goodyear, on one axle and a different make, say Kumho, on the other axle? I think I know the answer but would like to hear what others think.

I have done it many times because of budget concerns. I have run a single different tire(size and make) on the front in a pinch after having corded a tire as well. Go a little easy on the warm up lap, after that it is O.K. , if you hopped into the car and nobody told you, you probably wouldn't even notice the difference; a lot less difference than running on one corded tire! I am sure the purists here will tell you can that they can notice a 1 PSI difference between tires or the different date codes when they drive and the car will swap ends on the straight but there are so many variables in handling, after a couple laps, you will adjust to it.

I wonder what it would be like to run a set of track tires on the front and street tires on the back. Sounds like a good way to get a little oversteer practice.

yes
Kumho 710's on the front and A6's on the rear here. I can not keep Hoosiers on the front for more than a weekend and 19" Kumho's are not out yet.

Glad to hear its been done with success. It can save me some money since I have several tires of different makes that are still in good shape but can't put a complete set of 1 type together.

I mix and match as needed, but try and keep the stickier tires on the rear. Fronts tend to wear 50% faster than fronts, so it's pretty easy to keep good tires on the back.

I did it once.
I normally drive with 4 Toyo RA1s. One weekend I flat spotted my fronts down to the cords. A friend gave me some used Kumho V710s for the front. So I ran with the 710s on the front and the RA1s on the rear. I found that the rear was just as likely to spin as before, but the front was less likely to plow. Exactly what you would expect, right? Overall, it felt a little better, because the front end was handling a little better.
