Why I refuse to buy chrome wheels
It's rare but can happen. Maybe in a high impact accident i hear....Well lucky for me, maybe the rim was already cracked, for reason unknown; but i did bump a gutter in a McDonalds parking lot; upon leaving the parking lot i thought i had a flad tire due to the thump thump noise...Then suddenly SCRREECCHHHH.. .. This is what i got out to find.......
You will noticed half the town's rescue was there to help...So embarrassed, not to mention was in front of a elementry school and parents are calling the school wanting to know why fire trucks are out front...Because of me..

Hydrogen Embrittlement isn't so much a factor with aluminum. The problem with chrome wheels will be the stress risers that a nick in the chrome (or when the plating peels away) can cause. It is definitely not a good idea to chrome your aluminum wheels.

I am sure they're glad that this happened there and not once out on the highway.... that could've brought on alot more fire trucks...

I'm not convinced the blame for a break like that goes to chrome. We all know there are a gazillion (math term) chrome rims driving around.
I raced 4 years on AFS chrome sawblades & no problem except the chrome pitted & peeled. That's with r comps.

I have a chrome sawblade that looks just like that. It was used when I started using it for autox in 99. Paved , banked,1/2 mile circle track with BFG R1 tires. I spun out for no reason & had that for a rt rear wheel.
