Default Schumi to fill in for Massa/Ferrari in F1, Massa OK!

Two great bits of news here:

1) Massa has no long term injury, will likely race again.
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/29/r...ly-race-again/

2) Schumacher to fill Massa's seat for the rest of the season!!!

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/07/29/s...der-of-season/

Now, can he get the Ferrari's back on track? I can't wait to see a Hamilton v Schumacher matchup.

--------------------------
Felipe Massa's personal doctor has given the racer the best prognosis yet, saying "He doesn't seem to have a long-term injury," and that Massa hasn't suffered any eye damage. After the Brazilian's 170 mph (275 kph) impact with a flying spring that came off Rubens Barrichello's car during qualifying for the Hungarian GP, doctors were worried about keeping Massa alive, nevermind racing.

Now he is scheduled to leave intensive care today, and could leave the hospital in less than ten days. After that, he is expected to go to Paris for further treatment, and then to Monaco or Sao Paulo. Although it looks likely that Massa will race again, doctors have suggested it won't be this year. In the meantime, Michael Schumacher will emerge from retirement to take his place on Ferrari's F1 team.

I lurk this forum quite often and I have to chime in here.

This is great news all the way around. Driver protection from debris certainly deserves another look, and although this might sound callous it is not meant to be, consider that not too many years ago Massa would have been gone instantly. But the risks of motor sports have only been mitigated, not eliminated, and I don't see how the latter can be done without resorting to something like full-sized RC cars.

Although it is under unfortunate circumstances, it will be fantastic to see Michael back in a car. I don't think slicks and KERs will be a problem for him.

Is it 100% official that he is going back into the car?

The bad thing is you are putting one of the greatest drivers into what seems like Ferrari's worst chassis setup in years. Plus we are missing Ross behind the wall as well.

Glad to see him in the car again, as he is one of my top favorite drivers, I just hope it doesn't turn out like Jordan going back on the court.

Jordan spends a ton of time at the track now, he runs Blackhawk all the time on his motorcycle.

Michael on the court would be funny. The guy can jump pretty high for a white guy

Interesting turn of events

Glad Massa is coming along, will be great to see Shumacher back in the car, even though I don't expect it to turn Ferrari's season around. However, with Brawn falling away, Mclaren/RedBull/Ferrari coming together, it is turning out to be a great season for the fans, and have Shumacher back can only help.

Great that even with the political mess it is a great season for the fans.

I really don't think it's fully official. I don't doubt it will happen but they are saying something about a physical regimen to ensure MS is good to go. I guess his neck is still getting better from crashing a motorcycle.
I am not a Schuey fan but it will be very cool to see him back out there.

Can you feel it happening? Can you see the magic? I don't underestimate the possibilities of Michael getting back in a car and lighting up F1!

I am so happy Massa is doing better. That was a brutal twist of fate! Time will tell if his recovery is complete and he can return to F1.

Cannot wait to see the return, guess I'll need to buy some DVD's to burn just in case

Although the Ferrari's have not been like the cars of the later MS years, they are improving....and with MS behind the wheel we may be witness to an accelerated process,,,,dunno but it will be nice to pull for him on F1 weekends!

this will be much different then Schumacher is a rare type of driver though, he's both a "Feel-Sensitive" driver and an "Instinct-Reflex" driver. This means he not only is ready to drive the wheels off the car when he puts on his helmet, but he can also interpret what the car is doing and give feedback on how to properly setup the car. I believe the couple years after he retired he still tested the cars and set the cars up in and for development...at the way Ferrari's season is going, i think he can only really help, even if he does poorly in the beginning, he will probably be able to get the car where it needs to be for at least the last few races. I wouldn't expect much the first couple though (but it also wouldn't surprise me to see him in round 3 of knockout qualifying 1st weekend out )

I just hope I get to see his genuine enthusiasm on the podium again, if he actually wins a race the crowd/audience will have a good feeling all day and the sports writers will have a field day of speculation
