Default ALMS New Class Structure

There's not much new in this announcement. It's been floating around for a while now.

LMP1 and LMP2 get grouped together and we get a new spec class that limits horsepower.

GT will be the same as GT2 but Porsche get their own class. They call it the GT3 Challenge and it's for the old Porsche Cup cars.

This whole thing is designed to get cars on the grid. The LMP class could be pretty thing next year and the GT class sure isn't going to grow and larger.

I'm interested in your thoughts on all of this.

We don't need another spec class.

Aren t those GT3 P-cars getting in the way? and why not add the SWGT cars to that new class as well.

Heck maybe some NASA SU or SCCA, SPO cars would be better. or the SCCA Trans AM cars?

how do you call a spec class with spec cars a prototype class??

As for the ALMS-C/GT-C or whatever they're calling it

GT2/GT is looking pretty good, just need to get the number of cars up some (read hurry up Lou ).

Were coming

It should be fun being the David to their goliath, at least financially.

We will be at Petit for sure.

See you at the races.

Lou,
What do you think of the Dunlop's after watching the BMW's on them?

Well the ALMS series had to give the BMW a bunch of weight and Restrictor concessions to beat Michelin.

As for John Shiels question: the "WE" will not include Michelin on our car.

We were turned down one more time today.

Why would any Corvette owner want to buy Michelin Tires for their street car when they won't even sell tires to a Corvette competitor???

Every Porsche in the series has Michelin tires, but only the Factory Corvette gets to run on Michelins, NOT LG Motorsports!

I still think that is un-American!

So we are going to be Soybean Filler in the ALMS Hamburger again.

Thanks guys

Forget un -American .It is fundamentally unfair. The race organisers ought to have a rule on acceptable tyres eg a tyre spec that can be supplied to any /every competitor that chooses to use that brand.
It is outrageous that an injustice like this is allowed.
On the better side of the coin--at least you are going racing--that is a start.
On those tyres-- do you think the relative lasting ability is also different ie does the performance advantage still exist after 20 laps? Is it as big? How many tyres per meeting are allowed?

Did you show up at a health care town hall with swastikas and hate mongering signs? I hate that its the situation, but sometimes thats just the way things go. In my mind, when it comes down to it, it would give me more motivation to overcome the odds and win. Thats what the opportunity of the american dream is all about. Not being handed the way, but finding the way yourself overcoming the odds. I will be at Road Atlanta for the Petit Le Mans and I will be rooting for all American entries in the race, but LG comes first because you guys embody the spirit of all us normal folk that seem to be so "misunderstood" in today's political economy. Go get 'em!

okay, you're pinching a nerve on that, but let's keep the politics over in the political section and talk about racing.

Michelins decision is illogical to say the least. It shows that they feel that they can play god because they are in the cat bird seat.

Back in December they told me that Corvette racing wanted to "develop the tires for the Corvette without any data from another Corvette to skew the results".

Now the tires are developed for the Corvette, so there is no logical reason to deny me the use of their tires and the right to buy them.

It is more than un American, it is a bit Vindictive and vicious to treat a small team like this. I have lost money because I have been denied the right to buy Michelins. I lost my first team mate who left mid season because of tire frustration and not being able to buy Michelins.

I even asked to be allowed to use their "Club Tire" and they also denied that! they got ALMS to rule that those tires are illegal.

Manipulation by these large corporations where they control the ability to buy a product that is essential to be equal is totally wrong. THIS IS AMERICA! How can anyone refuse to sell to someone?

Illogical and probably illegal and Michelin should not be rewarded with support from the Corvette community.

Drop the Porsche Challenge (GT3) and bring on the European GT4 class; that will fill the feild. Stock LS3's in 450hp tune, in Corvettes; it can't get any better than that

That might change now that Michelin has nixed us.

Dunlop will be riding with us. And I hope we can get a tire close to the BMW spec.

It is the principle that matters.

Possible drivers: Eric Curran, Former F1 Friday test driver, South african Von Moltke, Tomy Drissi.

We should know about drivers within a week.

Thanks

No, just open up the class to real GT-3 cars (all) and allow WC to run in it with some equalization. Heck, WC should take on the basic tenants/rules of GT-3 anyways, IMO.
