HOOSIER SLICKS-not DOT
Has anyone here run the Hoosier Racing Slicks(non-DOT)? I have a chance to buy a set. Would they be as good as the Michelins?

Pretty damn impressive when I ran on them a couple of weeks ago.......A6 level grip which never seemed to "go away". Cant wait to sample them again soon.
Not in love with the rear sizing available for my car...
Make sure they are the new radial slick , not the old VRL's. They just came out with new radial slicks within 10 months or so...

ODD Sizes for sure
Hey Danny.
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, the size is 25.5x11.5 R18 front and 28.0x12.5 R18 rear. I'm running a 4.10 rear end with lots of torque, so I think the 28's will work
How do I tell if these are VRL? (and what does VRL stand for)

Is that the size that is molded in the sidewall? I have never seen Hoosier 18's with the sidewall designated in inches. The new R80 and R100's(I will using some of these 305/645-18 scrubs for the first time this weekend) have metric designations and have the R80 or R100 imprints. They had a previous generation of GT60(they were molded with GT60 imprints) slicks that were used in GrandAm and had metric designations; I tried some of those scrubs and they were about equal to R6 scrubs after chemically treating them with Formula V and 4 seconds slower than Dunlop slicks at Laguna Seca(1:43.7 on the Dunlops.) You should find out exactly which Hoosier slicks you are buying, it doesn't sound like the new, fast R100's and some ancient Hoosier slicks are no bargain.

Vrl?
Yep,
It turns out they are the VRL slicks. Other than having to change set-up to accommodate the 28" rears, what problems would there be using these for TT.

the VRLs would be good track day tires and to start out, You will get lots of USE, but not as fast as Rs or As
VRLs in 28" rear? I think those are the GT tires.

28.0x12.5 R18. They were originally intended for Grand-Am.
I'm going to call Hoosier and see if they can clarify.
Thanks for all the feedback.

So what's the input on an R6 vs the real slick ?
The slicks in my size cost about $75 more apiece. The one comment above is "r6 grip that lasts longer". That sounds a little wishful.
Anyone else have any experience ? The slick SHOULD have more grip than the R6, but I would also expect it to go away a lot sooner.
If the slick actually held up better than the R6 even one more trackday (4 sessions) but preferably two that would make the decision a lot easier.

Found out.
Hoosier confirmed that. They were for a Viper that did not run in the Viper Racing League. I'm going to try them. No problem with points as I will either run TTR or ballast the car and run TTU.
My main concern now is whether or not the set up will be as good as when I run the Dunlops.
Oh well, experiments can be fun!

Thanks. Where would the GT compound fit compared to the A6 and R6 ?
Tom

it doesn't, nothing like them at all.... totally different compound composition. Much higher grip level.

If these are GT60 scrubs(3+ years old) They will be as good as the Dunlops on the warm up lap, it will be downhill after that. I bought mine for $20 a tire and they were worth exactly that! Do you have a close up picture of the sidewall?

I found them. They are the 2007(or older) DP tire, not the GT:

They are heavier than the GT's and probably the new R100's because they are designed to accomodate high downforce Daytona Prototypes.
All of my comments were with regard to the GT's, so please disregard.
