SCCA Road Atlanta National STO results
Damn it was freaking hot today!! My exhaust runs inside the car and turns out thru the passenger door. 90' outside and I bet it was over 130' in my car.
I thought Jerry and I would have a better race than we did, our lap times are always really close. For the first 3 laps or so, we had a GT1 car get in between our fight. I would get past it, and then the long straight would come and it would go shooting by me....probably 20mph faster...then I would work like hell to repass it and catch up to Jerry. He eventually got too far ahead to catch, then I started overheating and the fight was over. I backed off, put it in 4th and drove around. Crew chief thinks maybe we blew a head gasket. Jerry on the last lap broke something on the rear suspension (spring?) and the whole back of the car was sitting on the rear tires. If the race had been one more lap I don't think he would have made it. Results:
1: Onks 1.31.099 C6 Z06
2: Mayer 1.30.816 C6 WC vette
3. Lewis 1.36.283 C6 Z06
4. Brooks 1.36.355 C6 Vette
5. Vincion 1.36.728 C4 Vette

Apparently "they're" all out here in CA since 5 of us have been racing monthly since January, and 2 of us finally got our cars ready enough to race last month. Sorry, but blanket statements don't count for everybody.

Why? - because of the bad board decisions, hamstringing, and poor performance of the new cars. If you were thinking about coming into T1, you probably wouldn't go out and buy a 10-year old C5...you'd try to look for a newer machine that would last for a while and that wouldn't require a lot of maintenance. But, the new cars haven't done well and you must run a sump, etc. just to get it to survive.
And if you did want an older car (because there's more of them), you must spend $$ to upgrade brakes, headers (with their associated problems), etc. The C5 is still a monster car at any track, but at THE track (Road America), no C5 really showed that well.
Unless the cheaper T1 cars start to show better at RA, people will spend the $$ and go STO. T1 was designed to be a relatively cheap, low maintenance, low mods SS class with close racing. With the million dollar 430 and monster Viper running away at 1.5+ seconds per lap at last year's Runoffs, the board has their work cut out for them to equalize the field.
