Default Interesting weekend for roadracing.....

This weekend could prove interesting as NASCAR runs its first ever race at Road America (the Nationwide cars) with Ron Fellows and quite a few other road course drivers in the race. Additionally, the Cup cars are at Infineon, and Jan Magnussen and Mattias Ekstrom (German touring car Champion, DTM) will be there.

Personally, I can't wait to see how the Nationwide cars handle Road America, and I watch every televised race from there that I can - love that track and hope to get on it someday. I also can't wait to see how Jan and Mattias do at Infineon.

Nationwide at RA coverage starts 3pm ET Sat on ESPN2

Cup at Sonoma 2pm ET on TNT

Thanks for the post, Everett; I had no idea about the RA race. That should be interesting. I wonder why they split the two series between road courses on opposite coasts on the same weekend? Surely there are a number of guys who would've liked to run both.

I'm just hoping they don't destroy the track before we have to race the June Sprints there next week.

I agree - not sure why they are doing it the same weekend -for sure some of the guys want to do both, and indeed a few of them are (Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Paul Menard) - that means lots of traveling between tracks.

Big budgets, FTW! I guess the logistical challenges really only prevent the one-off ringers from doing both.

Somehow I'd been reading the Nationwide venue as Road Atlanta the whole time.

Not quite as far to travel, I suppose, but still.

I will be at RA tomorrow and Saturday. Lap one turn five should be interesting. Boris said during testing was hitting 180 at the crest of the hill coming into five and then a 45mph apex speed at five. I am not a Nascar fan or expert but something tells me 36 heavy cars at 170-180 needing to scrub off that much speed spells something bad. keeping in mind that many of the drivers are not seasoned at RA. I have heard rumors that if this weekend is a sucess next year sprint cup will be at RA.

If there is any damge from the cars RA will have it fixed for the sprints and our event following the sprints.

I wonder how long it takes to fix a stock car sized hole in the catch fence at The Kink?

How fast were the cars lapping. We did a 2:09.xxx at the Cat National and hope to run 7's at the sprints.

Looks like practice times are in the 2.15.xx range. Similar times as Speed GT cars.

Here's a list of times from Thursday practice, some framilar names Ron Fellows, Jacques Villeneuve.

Interesting article about Carl improving his line and his time when the corner worker gave advice.

What do Speed GT cars weigh?

For this being a Corvette forum and road racing fans, you guys have completely over looked that the SCCA Pro Trans-Am series is at Road America this weekend as well with 19 cars in the field. After two practice sessions completed today, Vettes are all over the top five in times running 8-10 seconds a lap faster than the Nationwide cars.

My bad, Trans-Am cars are 8-10 mph faster than Nationwide which equates to about 22 seconds per lap faster.
