Default Anyone mount a coolshirt cooler in the rear of a C5? Pics?

The FAST cool-shirt cooler I have fits nicely in the rear tub, but I'm going to have to fab up a flat bottom to mount it to.

Anyone do this? Anyone have any pics or tips on how they've done it?

I'm considering getting some ABS plastic or similar to make a new flat floor, pop-riveting that to the tub, then strapping the cooler to that.

I don't think I have a photo but all I did was use 2 I-bolts with fender washers on both sides and a rachet strap. Then I took a garbage bag and some Great Stuff foam sprayed it inside the bag and shoved it in the well. After it dried I trimmed it. Just make sure that you feed the rachet strap through the handle so it holds on if things shift.

So you didn't make some kind of tray like the install kit they sell for the older style cooler?

No pic, but had an aluminum plate across the bottom of the well (one small bolt in each corner.) I created two "belt loops" from some metal straps and placed one on either side of the (Cool Shirt brand) cooler and ran the strap across the longer length of it. The strap was nylon web material I got at a hardware store.

Here's a pic before I made up the foam "insert"

You can see the I-bolt in the center well, there's one on the other side, the foam insert fills the well and a ratchet strap holds it in place.
Just make sure you put the strap through the handles so it doensn't come loose. It's a nice place to put the cooler because if you spill a little when filling the cooler there's a drian hole on the bottom.

Take out the board covering the center hole.

Put the cooler in there and use budgie cords

1. I have a Z06 so no compartment covers to begin with
2. The cooler wont sit in there flat
3. My interior is long gone

I'm going to fab up a support using 2 strips of 1.25 x 1/8" aluminum and 2 pieces of 1 x 1/8" aluminum angle to hold it in place. Will post up some pics when I build it tonight.

A couple of year ago I had a Coolshirt cooler that leaked as the ice melted and the water sloshed around in the cooler.

The water ended up in the well and leaked out through the hole in the bottom of the well.

That didn't work out real well. As the race wore on the corner workers saw it and didn't know what it was and were about to black flag me because they thought it might be gas. If we'd had one more lap they would have done it.

Afterwards I plugged the hole so it wouldn't leak and the next year I replaced the cooler with a new one.

So, if you expect any leakage, be aware it might cause a problem.

The one I have from FAST has a fully sealed lid that seems really tight. Hopefully it won't be an issue.

Mine does not sit flat but some what flat. I only put in enough water and ice so the water pumps.

Sorry I am late on this one I just got home, I snapped a couple of pics for you. I used a light gauge metal and bolted it the cooler tray and bolted it down in the well. I also added a two wire quick disconnect-I can pull the cooler quickly and dump it out.

^ thanks for the pics... that looks nice.

Here's what I came up with this evening, just need to get a strap for the cooler etc. Will worry about that when it comes back from the cage install.

^ Looking good! Great idea- those aluminum pieces from lowes are super light and very easy to work with

Don't blame you, if I had known he had those available I would have done the same thing-would have saved me some time for sure
