Default (autox) your thoughts on maximum stock bolt lowering

im currently lowered, but not to the max I could have gone. I know that the best handling of these cars is acheived through lowering, but not at the max. I have changed out my shocks to c6z06 shocks which raised me back up I think around 1/4 to a 1/3" Asthetically, id love to go back down, even farther if I could.

With these shocks, can I go to max stock bolt lowering without any ill effects as far as handling goes?

I think that lowering the C5 more than 25mm is a bad idea, if you change nothing else. With those shocks, I don't know. Also, be sure to maintain the rake when you do it.

I had mine lowered 3/4" in the front, and 1" in the rear ( still maintained a rake ) and then after installing the shame shocks, my car rasied back up a 1/4.

I lowered it a little further to get it back down and I've had no ill effects in doing so. The rear actually feels a bit more planted now.

Lowering it too much is going to run the risk of it bottoming out but I've not done so yet.

Hope it helps. I'm sure I'll be adjusting again when I move to Konis in the coming weeks.

You should measure carefully the c6 shocks vs c5z shocks. I have "heard" the c6 shock is longer and will bottom out & not suggested for c5.

You will not like how the car behaves if the shock bottoms out.

FWIW

Been there, done that, years back.

My $.02: leave yourself some suspension travel.

I've had both. Actually the rear C6 Z06 shocks are shorter then C5 Z06 shocks. You will get more travel with them. About 1/4" I remember. The fronts are the same travel. Also, I would throw the bump stops out.

I daily drive, plus lots of autox ( I drive it like I stole it ) and havent bottomed out with the c6z shocks.

and I love the way it drives now, so looks or not, its staying where it is just gonna throw some more camber at it.

Where did you learn that myth?

Lowering the car make it handle worse.

Send us some info on not lowering.
The only issue I've known about lowering the C-5 is not letting the shocks bottom out.

agreed, mucho curious. general consensus along with my butt, and my track times have all shown that 'some' lowering is ideal for a c5. if you were just saying "dont go to max bolt adjustment" I fully understand and agree with that. But......

I'm not sure I know of any nationally competitive autox'd stock C5 or C6 that doesn't hit the bumpstops....

Better yet .. you send us some info that says it is beneficial to reduce the suspension travel.

I bought my car used so I don't know if the car was lowered or not. The quick and dirty way that I've read is to measure height at the fender lip, but what should that measurement be for a 2006 Z51?
