What RPM is the HP peak?
See the poll that follows. Did not know I only had 4 minutes to enter the poll after the post.

Most LS6s and LSx have peak HP is 6200-6250 rpms
Depending on the cam put in that peak may go up slightly to 63-6400
peak tq at 44-4500 +/-
changing your gearing to keep your engine in the optimal RPM sweet spot is a good idea too.

According the the torque multiplication the shift points for a stock C5Z LS6/M12 tranny are 7200 rpm for 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 and 6400 for 4-5.
If you shift sooner you are actually giving up some "pull".
This seems to work out for Buttermore in his T1 car.
