Default Corvette DP on Pole at COTA GrandAm

Corvette Prototypes in top 2 as well as 4 of top 5 spots in Qualifying -

GrandAm news:
AUSTIN, Texas (March 1, 2013) – Jon Fogarty showed why he is the top qualifier in GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series history on Friday, waiting until his final lap to capture the TOTAL Pole Award for Saturday’s GRAND-AM of The Americas presented by GAINSCO and TOTAL.

After hanging back for much of Friday’s 15-minute Daytona Prototype qualifying session, Fogarty unleashed the Dallas-based No. 99 “Red Dragon” GAINSCO Auto Insurance Corvette DP with a lap of 2:00.179 (101.848 mph) on the 3.4-mile Circuit of The Americas – extending his record to 24 career poles.

Jordan Taylor qualified second in the No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP co-driven by Max Angelelli with a lap of 2:00.039 (101.797 mph). Reigning Rolex Series co-champion Memo Rojas will start third in the No. 01 TELMEX BMW/Riley, qualifying at 2:00.289 (101.755 mph). Rojas and co-driver Scott Pruett are seeking their fourth consecutive DP championship this season.

It will be an all-Ferrari front row in GT. Alessandro Balzan took his second career Rolex Series pole in the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458, 2:08.848 (94.997 mph). He will co-drive with Alessandro Pier Guidi. Max Papis will start second after running a 2:09.205 (94.733 mph) lap in the No. 61 R. Ferri/AIM Autosport Ferrari 458 co-driven by defending GT champ Jeff Segal.

What a GREAT race to watch. The coverage was good the track is absolutely beautiful and the anouncers were into it. What a pleasure it was to see some great racing and race cars. Those Ferraris are just plain FAST! Thank god the weather was good and I didn't have to listen to " boogity , boogity , boogity" ! Dp Corvettes are awesome.

COTA is an awsome track - great spectator venue. Walking trails surround the facility with cross-walks to the infield. The surrounding trails and hills provide spectacular views of the track with its many elevation changes and turns.

Fogart/Gurney brought the Gainsco Corvette DP in first, with other Corvette DP's in fourth, and fifth. Bill Auberlen was on fire winning both the CTSCC and the Rolex GT class! The Porsche's covered four of the top five finishers in GT.

Boris Said and Eric Curran were driving the only non-DP Corvette in GT. They finished 13th but did post the fastest lap in GT (2:09.009).

I went just for the race on Sat. Drove down from Dallas with my wife and 2 yr old girl. We had a great time and the track was really worth checking out. Hope to catch an F1 race there in the future but wanted to at least see a race there before we move to Los Angeles. We used to go to Sebring every yr for the 12 hr. for my Birthday so this race was a sort of replacement for that. I was not disappointed! I took a few shots that I may post up.
