I've decided on engine combination...
OK, here is what I have pretty much made my mind up on. If there is something that could be changed for the same price for better performance or something incompatible, please let me know.
For now:
ZZ4 Shortblock
Vortec heads
Vortec/TPI intake
LT4 hotcam kit (includes self-aligning roller rockers)
GMPP pushrods
GMPP (I think, don't have my list w/ me) Roller lifters
0.51 head gaskets (listed as "for Vortec heads")
Federal Mogul HV oil pump
stock oil pan
Stock Torque converter
Stock gears (2.73)
For Later:
52 mm Throttle body (which is the best?)
24 lb Accel fuel injectors
Ported plenum
AS&M runners
Breathless vortex intake
TPIS headers
Any suggestions, comments, concerns will be greatly appreciated.
Also posted this in C4 Tech/Performance section.

The Hot cam and stock torque converter and those gears are the first problem I see.
I would go with an Accel base for less than $400 and a conventional set of heads

I like your engine combo, but I would look at a higher stall speed converter and if gears are an option, something numerically higher.

I think I will use a slightly higher stall converter (1800 perhaps) and possibly 3.73 gears, if the job I'm doing right now ever ends. I know 3-4 mpg on the highway doesn't seem like much, but when you drive 130 miles 5 days a week round trip, it adds up quickly. Still don't know which cam yet...
Oh, BTW, I just picked up a set of AFR 190 heads Tuesday, and I might have found a good used ported intake. It is slowly coming together :D

The stock intake even ported will not give you what you want! go with an Accel super ram intake base now while you have it apart. you will be well pleased and in the future all you have to do is add the super ram upper. you can get the Accel base for under $400, just contact rich@cruzinperformance.com

Under $400?!? That is awesome. I have seen them for $400-$450 everywhere else. Cool - thanks WINNER!
