can any tell me if the pace car came with a decal on the back by the gas cap that said unleaded fuel only.thanks

Yes, all 78 Corvettes came with the "Unleaded Fuel Only" warning label, including the Pace Car.

For 78, the label has silver letters with a black border. Unlike earlier years, the 78 label is straight, not curved. On Pace Cars, the warning label is placed on the spoiler, about a 1/4 from the notch for the gas door.

Purchase the 78 assembly instruction manual (AIM). It shows you were to place the label.
