Default Did I just buy the wrong exhaust???

I bought headers with cats but I just realized my '98 is a classic. In PA do I need to worry about emissions inspection?

RBbugBITme,

Cars have to be 25 years old to be registered as classics in the US. You'll need to worry about emissions testing with a 1998. Also, even with high flow cats, you'll still needed a custom tune to pass emissions. Just installing the headers and cats with no tune will throw an check engine light.

OK thanks but I think you mean antique for 25 years and classic is 15 years. I have EFILive.

I think you're right...lol

Still I thought only cars 25years old are fully exempt from emissions. Regardless, if you have EFILive and your regional emissions testing only requires an OBDII check (not a visual), then you can run any exhaust you like and still pass.

Although in PA under 5,000 miles a year you are exempt from emission inspection, you still have top get a sticker, it will say exempt on the sticker but you car is not tested, here are exemptions in PA

A vehicle is exempt from emissions testing when:
• It is a motorcycle.
• It is a vehicle owned for a year and more and has driven less than 5000 miles in the year before the inspection.
• It is a new vehicle and has driven less than 5000 miles.
• Registered antique, collectible or classic vehicles.
• Registered street rods.
For additional information call (800) 265-0921.

Not all areas in Pa need emissions inspections or stickers. Here in Wellsboro we do NOT.
