Default Need Help w/ Fiberglass and Filler

I'm doing a some body work on my '70 and have a few questions ...

I have removed my luggage rack and am glassing in the holes. I've read many threads on the proper way to do this, so I think I'm okay so far. Now that I've layed up the mat, using a straight edge I can see a gap remaining of perhaps a heavy 1/32". Should I grind it down enough to add another layer of mat, or should I use filler to level it? Is fill thickness an issue?

I intend to use Evercoat VPA on my seams (as future work) but need to know if I should use this product as a body filler, or do I use a different product? I haven't bought the VPA yet, so I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks for your help.

Use the VPA....I would after I had completed my lamination's. The 'circle' around your luggage rack holes will be about as large as a grapefruit...if not larger....when finally completed with the VPA.

If you keep the repair to small..it can come back on you. I much prefer to have my lamination's at or about the size of a soda pop can diameter...and then grind and fill it so it is larger than that...thus the 'grapefruit' size.
