which is faster? a c5 or a new mustang gt
all the guys i know tell me that i will beat a new mustang gt no problem, stock to stock only im talking here, the way my car goes i think i should no problem, especially when you compare a less weight car and 50 more horses it only makes sense. but this guy bought a new mustang and he thinks his 300hp car can beat a c5 no problem but he never raced one yet.
another guy i know that is best freind with my buddy owned a 95 corvette and he told me before he sold it couple of month ago he use to smoke the new gt's no problem and he only had 300 horspower, what do you guys think.
and please im only comparing stock to stock i don't care if you can get a million more horspower from a mustang with mods, because i can also do the same for mine. i just want to do a fair comparison here( if you call it fair, i mean i would never even look twice at a mustang), so tell me what you think>

C5 will own a 05+ GT. Those things are portly, and stock for stock are leaving approx 30-40 HP on the table to the C5.

Couple of things against the Mustang, the weight is one of them. Though they are 50 HP less, I think if you can get a comparison of the torque curves you will see a more telling tale. At what RPM do they make the 300 HP? Might be much higher than the LS1, which means in first gear he will have a lot of ground to make up.
I still like the looks of the new Mustang though

Alot of these new Mustangs can be modded fairly cheaply to add alot more boost and power, but 500lbs. is alot of horses to overcome. The C5 will definitely beat a stock GT easily. You still have to beware, because you never know what the other guy might have.

I drove an 05 GT with a 5 speed late last year and I was not impressed. My friend's 02 Ram Air (only mod is a cat-back exhaust) would leave it without even trying hard. The new Mustangs are all show no go.

Mustangs are fun to beat on, Oh I raced a 04 Cobra SC with some dude acting cool in it, with my wifes 04 GTO just a K&N all stock. Boy to those wusstang drivers get made when they loose, but you would think that they would be used to it by now. The 5.0's used to beat us all in the 80's but the 4.6 mod motor is just a joke.

The new Mustangs look pretty good but they dropped the ball in the weight department and they need something other than that 4.6 Ltr. But, even with that, you still have the issue with Ford electronic's and electrical systems.

Till the lt-1 came out, My 93 was about 50-3 on the street
and most were over the Mustangs. Also had a 94 Z-28. Then when the ls-1 came out it was worse. The Camaro SS 98 was fast with some mods.339 rwhp
With a win for $200.00 againest a 5.0 with a 200horse N2o
kit.

Corvette VS Mustang GT
With a cold are intake, Corsa Exhaust some time back I had the enjoyment of beating two Mustang GTs at once. We left the pay booth on the Italian Autosrada at Portoguardo coming back from a car show and the two Stangs were in the right lane at nearly a dead stop and we all got on it at the same time. By 60 MPH I was at least two car lengths ahead of both of them and then there wasn't much sense in pushing any more. There's an awesome site at: http://www.ssmoparmuscle.com/speedcomp.htm that gives quarter mile and 0 - 60 times for hundreds of cars. The guy keeps it fairly current. If you know what your car will do, just sort the list by 1/4 mile time and what's above you, beats you and what's below you, you can beat. Take a look at the site, you'll enjoy it.

As for the '04Cobra, given equal driving ability they should be pretty even in a 1/4 mile race stock for stock. Highway roll I'm not sure about the FRC. With my a4 coupe, an '04 Cobra will take me in 1/4, but from a highway roll I can put a car length at least on them by the time I hit 150mph. Probably due to aero and gearing.
The problem is, there aren't many stock '03-'04 Cobras. Way too cheap and easy to mod into the 425-475 rwhp range.
