too much cam?
Heading to Detroit, Michigan in a few weeks to pick up our "old" '04 coupe. It is a cam/bolt-ons car that makes 429 to the wheels NA and will run 11.2x's in great air. When I get it back I plan to add some Viking DA's all the way around and change the Yank SS4000 to a SS3600 to be able to spray the car. It makes 565 to the wheels on a 150 shot but blew through the converter at the track.
Cam question. We run a Tick SNS Stage III cam with .620/.623 lift, 235/243 duration @ 0.050" and the cam is installed on a 109 intake center line. We currently run the OEM 241 heads (with good BTR springs and TFS pushrods) as well as the stock LS6 intake. I'd like to upgrade the heads and intake. Speaking with a few reputable companies they almost sound like it has "too much cam" and are trying to talk me into something more milder so that we can have P2V clearance and make a little more compression. My though was to just use a CNC set of PRC 227 heads out of the box and be done with it. Those shouldn't require fly cutting and will up the compression to around 10.5/10.75. Thoughts?

Thata definitely way more cam than the 241 heads can handle, but keeping the cam and doing a head upgrade would be a good move in my opinion.

.648/.648 lift, 248/248 duration
TF 215 Heads - worked by Headgames Motor Sports
Drove it to work - daily driver with track duty running 10.50 index and brackets at the Corvette Challenge.
Fast 92, Yank 3,800, auto 3:73's idles at 800 rpm's
Stock bottom (fly cut pistons)

I may have to fly cut pistons eventually but would really prefer not to have to do that. Speaking with TSP the PRC 227 head offers more P2V than stock so I should be able to run those as is and get a little bump in compression without having clearance issues. I'm thinking that with a FAST intake, bigger TB and the heads I would comfortably be in the 10s NA since we're only 3 tents away now with stock 241 heads and the stock LS6 intake.
