fouling spark plug
I have a question, my vette is at around 153K miles and the number eight spark plug gets fouled up after a few hundred miles. Is there a spark plug that works better when your engine starts to burn oil? Can I increase the spark? Just not ready for a rebuild yet.
Thanks!! |
Re: fouling spark plug (kghott)
Could try a hotter plug, but I don't think this will get you very far.
You could look into doing the valve seals on that cyl. If it is fouling that quick, it is probably the valve seal. The intake side. |
Upon disassembling me engine I noticed a trend. Cynlinder #2 was the most carbon'd up and had the most burned oil inside the head. Plug #2 was also very fouled. I had a skip at idle, and blue smoke at startup.
Well, upon pulling the rockers I noticed that one of the locks on exhaust valve #2 was mangled and the valve was ready to drop. I bet that was the cause of the skip, oil leak, and anything else wrong with that cylinder. :) |
Re: fouling spark plug (ZylaRace)
Is that a tough procedure to do with the valve seals? That side of the engine is pretty easy to get to for the most part. Any cost estimates?
Thanks for all the info guys. |
Re: fouling spark plug (kghott)
I have the same, but I was first :)
check my post "Injector or valve?" (few days ago) Jerry |
Re: fouling spark plug (kghott)
You can try going to a higher weight oil?

Re: fouling spark plug (kghott)
I did valve seals in the parking lot. No compressed air so I fed rope into the cylinder near TDC to keep the valves up.
Scrop says the right side valve cover is easy to remove on his '87 so should be on your '86. If you only do the #8 cylinder you could set the lash cold and it should be a cake job. It's a little hard to turn the crank by hand with all valve springs set, even with the spark plugs out, but can be done. |

Re: (scorp508)
Then the passenger valve cover should come up easily.
not so easy, not so easy, it is do-able job :) but not so easy, you will see... Jerry |
