Default Cars dead, no power at all. Bad key fob?

What is the most cost effective way to fix this. Car wont move and im pretty sure its because its unable to read the chip in the key fob. Talked to Chevy and I could hear the dollar signs going up as he was talking to me.

....and just for kicks and giggles, I've been in many cars that were in park but not really in park. Good enough to take out the key and lock the wheel but not good enough when it came to starting (same symptoms as a dead battery but lights, radio etc all work)

So turn the key to run, put it in gear, and then park again (this is assuming you have an AT

No its the keys and the fob attached. Yes the car is a 99 and an auto...bolt-ons, tune. Car is completely dead which is def. a computer issue and its mechanically fine.

Then it's the battery, or a bad connection on the posts.

Neither key works? The pellet is in the key.

Take you new battery out and have it load tested. I know you said it's new but new doesn't mean good or fully charged. When that's done and you know all connections are tight we help you from there.

I know you have your mind set that it's a computer problem, but it's probably not. Define carefully what you mean by "dead" and "no power". Do you have courtesy lights, headlights, horn, radio, etc? Do the gauges sweep when you turn on the key? Does "Corvette by Chevrolet" scroll across the DIC when you turn the key to on? Does all this happen and then no sound when you turn the key to start, or does nothing work at all in the car? When you say it "won't move", do you mean it will start and then die when you try to move? State calmly and carefully what you are seeing and you can get an idea here on where to start.

Bill's got a good point... The brand new part is also big clue. Plenty of weak batteries on the shelves, and your connections on the install may be suspect. Have it load tested- If it was weak enough the jump may not have helped, although this also points to connectivity issues.

LOL! Until you do some basic troubleshooting (LIKE PULLING THE DTCs) as 8VETTE7 suggested, I pray that you have a very good relationship with the BANK!

Your battery cables REQUIRE a very tight connection to function properly. IF,,, you can move the battery cable connection BY HAND, it is NOT tight.

The GM battery cable terminal bolt TQ requirement is 11 ft/lbs for a proper connection with the battery terminals.

If it were MY CAR, that would be where I would start.

Bill, I think he said the car is completely dead, nothing. That's why I suggested having the battery checked and the connections. If he isn't getting anything he can't run the codes.

You really need to answer 65GGVert's questions. Do you see anything on the instrument panel when you turn the key on? Can you honk the horn? Will the headlights turn on and pop up? The answers to these simple questions will start to move you to the correct solution. If you answered yes to the above questions, can you pull the codes? See 8Vette7's reply to you. If you can pull the codes, then post em !!
