Default Leather care

I am looking for some recommendations for leather conditioners for my 2007 C6. Any suggestions? I have used Lexol on other cars in the past. Has anyone used this on their Corvette?

Thanks

I used this on my Lexus and also on my new to me 07 vert. It's a great product and many dealers recommend it. Just part of your seat is leather. My ex wife's new Benz was not leather but you would swear it was and it actually hold up better than leather

That's correct, which means it has a plastic coating over it and no leather products actually makes it down into the leather.

Don't use any leather cleaner or conditioner on these seats. They are mostly vinyl and the small amount of leather used is coated with plastic.
Any conditioner will evaporate and coat your windows with a film and the oily conditioner traps dirt and causes premature wear on the seat surface.
Just wipe them off with a mild all-purpose cleaner diluted and a wet towel.

I have found some great stuff for cleaning my dash and all of the interior. It's called Mr. Leather. It keeps the shine long after any other product I have ever used. It contains mink oil so it won't dry out.

I used to use straight mink out on the interiors of all my cars, but it is kinda hard to work with. So, I tried this when I saw it contained mink oil. I am really happy with it. You can get it at Walmart for only a few dollars. I love this stuff.

You can clean your seats, but that's about it. I applied Meguiar's Gold Class leather to my seats yesterday by hand (with gloves) and soaked them down, thinking gee these will turn out nice and supple.

Useless. After an hour I had to wipe it all off because absolutely none of it actually soaks into the seat. Some evaporated, the rest went onto the rag.

Not real happy with this as I want the seats to feel softer than they do.

For those of you who use anything other than water and mild soap, may I ask why?
Is is because you don't believe that the leather is plastic coated? Or because you used to use it decades ago on cars with natural leather? Boredom? The smell?
I don't get it. If anything you may be accelerating the wear on your seats.

Most people including myself thought the seats were actually leather.. now I understand why Jeremy Clarkson is always ranting about the cheap corvette interiors. :P

Here's my two cents answer.
I like the way I slide in and out of the car with Meguires - reduced pull on the material. Also, the seats look like new after applying. You simply won't get that appearance with plain soap and water.

We have a Honda Oddity van that I've used Meguires on for over ten years. The seats still look great even though it is a daily driver out in the West Texas sun and not garaged.

Why not just use plain soap and water on the exterior? The wax doesn't penitrate the clear coat and it attracts dirt. Same principle - in my mind anyway.

Very few cars except exotics have all leather seats. Mercedes is a using fake leather. If you want real leather it's a special order and then it's only the seat bottoms. Real leather wears out. Pleather looks good and lasts the life of the car.

I'm in the group that didn't know the leather was plastic coated.

Maybe a dumb question - Is the dash leather also plastic coated or just the seats?

+1. Was introduced by Todd at Esoteric, it's just as good as her said. He has a video on YouTube that explains it nicely, including his take on "coated" leather.

Not a dumb question, but yes the leather dash is coated too. All the leather in the corvette is aniline leather, as are most car interiors.
The leather is colored to be uniform then urethane coated to protect it.
Lexus and some other manufacturers are using synthetic leather as it feels softer. It's also plastic coated.

Both these types of leather have a fabric backing and you don't want to smear a conditioner or oil based products onto the seats and allow them to be absorbed thru the seams into the fabric below.
