No 3rd gear
Car is an 02 Z06 with 91,000 miles on it. I've owned car a little over a month. Previous owner installed a MGW shifter. Trans will shift into every gear except 3rd. When I'm in 2nd going to 3rd I can't get it in, there's no grinding noises at all. I adjusted the shifter using the correct line up tool. Any one know these trans or what could possibly be going on? Thanks

Need a little more info... doesn't go in to 3rd period, or just when you try to go from 2nd to 3rd... go into 3rd any other time? 3rd gear work once you get it in...

It will not go in 3rd gear at all doesn't matter how I try too. It's blocked like I'm hitting a brick wall trying to go to 3rd. The strange thing is there's no grinding. I have the boot off the shifter where I can watch it while I shift. Is the small shaft supposed to slip on the larger one with the clamp on it? There's a lot of movement between the 2 shafts. Clamp is tightened down.

Along with realigning things with the neutral shift bar... look in the pinch clamp at the cut out on the shaft and make sure the bolt is centered in that cut out...square,straight, and level so to speak... make sure everything is lined up, spaced evenly, and tight... no movement in the box or on the shafts...other than the rolling of both shafts in unison when changing gears...

Thanks for your help, looks like I'm gonna be taking car somewhere to get looked at. The shift linkage shaft is extremely tight and binding for some reason.

NO...no slippage at all... even a tiny bit will not allow the shifter to operate correctly...

Each gear has a GEAR, Blocker rings and the synchro. There are also dogs that provide positive engagement.
The shift fork has plastic shoes that slide the 3rd/4th locking ring over the driven gear and the output gear on the main shaft.
WHAT EVER IS WRONG, that prevents the engagement of 3rd gear will require transmission removal, disassembly and repair.
