Faster Than Any Corvette
Elon Musk announced that Tesla Motors has developed a new battery package that will decrease the "ludicrous mode" zero to 60 time to 2.5 seconds. That's for the sedan-the SUV is a slow 2.9 seconds.

Battery cars/bikes are the future, and the future is close I think. (just look at Zero bikes)
In 2015 42.1% of all Danish electrical power consumption came from windmills. And the % is growing fast year by year.

The 0-60 performance numbers of the Teslas are not overly surprising, as the torque output of those electric motors is incredible.
I will definitely consider a Tesla once the price point comes down a bit. It will never replace my Vette!

Impressive results, but IMHO the autonomy is still a huge weak point for electric powered cars. For a daily car I'll be happy to sacrifice 4 or 5 seconds in 0-100 Km/h to get an autonomy of at least 1000Km without running out of battery, or as alternative a 5 minutes charging time.
But electric technology is developing very quickly, so I'm sure that this gap will be closed in the next years or decades in the worst case.
My diesel-powered car is quite new right now, so there is a high chance that my next car, five or six years from now, will be an electric one... for the fun of drive, there's my Vette.

How about sung as Beach Boy's "409":
Tesla, Tesla you're so fine
Ain't nobody can beat you off the line
When your battery is on full charge
Tesla, you sure ain't a barge
Tesla, Tesla you're so fine
I just wish you were mine

It won't change the fact that the sound of a V-8, exemplified and proven by the ongoing pursuit and appreciation of the right exhaust system....for the sound, will not exist with an electric car. If speed is all that matters, then I guess it might be fine, but driving a C3 Corvette is more than just speed. Its that simple....and you can buy what you want....but its not for me. If you gave me one, I would sell it and buy a 1967 GTO!
Just like sitting at an intersection with some Japanese slammed Scion / Acura / Camry boy racer with boom can muffler / turbo blah blah blah.....when they launch off on their intent to impress me with their idea of cool, and most likely ability to out race me, I just sit and smile.
Hey, its not slam to you personally for owning one, its just that I am not impressed with the car.

No worries. I was just like you. "If it doesn't have a V8, I don't want it". Then I drove one.
But I'm keeping my C3 also. Love the contrast between them.

Worrying who has a faster car when out the door for me when I was in middle school , but I do get teslas point and do see this as the future of something in the meantime I will say that a tesla is just a car for people who are too cool to own a pirus or volt and I would likely look at one if the prices where not out of my pay rate, in that for electric cars to really be something pricing will have to be better....
So is there an electric corvette or just some car company whose perk is they are faster than the corvette, tells you something about how the world sees the corvette

If you wanna get going in a hurry, how about a hydrogen peroxide rocket-powered go kart? 0-253 mph in 5.95 seconds. Pfffffffft....sounds like you are passing gas...because you are!

Teslas are beautiful. I believe Consumer Reports gave one the highest rating of any car they ever tested. Tesla has 400K down payments for the "Honda Civic" version, which won't start coming off the manufacturing lines until late next year.
Sheesh... They are made right up the road in Fremont, where our 65 4-4-2 was built. There are charging stations all over the place in Silicon Valley.
And yeah, even the small battery version blows the stinking doors off most other cars.

Our Tesla is a P85D equipped with Ludicrous, and it accelerates like a bat out of hell with a 0-60 at around 2.7-2.8 seconds. Not the 2.5 seconds of this new P100D, but it can still make you downright nauseous and give you tunnel vision from it's acceleration from a dead stop.
It can press you back into your seat and keep you there for a good bit.
The following vid was done in a Tesla with Insane, which is one step down from and not as quick as Ludicrous.
Our Tesla has a rated range at 100% charge, of over 250 miles.
For my type of driving and for what I expect out of a vehicle, there is just not much that any gasoline vehicle on the market today offers me over my Tesla right now.
Not a single thing. Not the "rumble" of a V8, as I don't miss the racket from an ICE vehicle at all.
And before anyone says "range", well I'd say that any one way trip over about 300 miles or so, the range of this new one coming to market and which can actually be ordered now, I'm flying anyway.
We have a Model 3 reservation but have been so impressed with the Model S, that we will probably also end up buying another Model S before that.
