Default Thinking of buying new C7 Grand Sport

Thinking of getting a new Grand Sport, just wondering how they are, and things I should know. I'm 20, 21 next month. Already have school paid off, and will pay cash for it. Insurance isn't that bad it's about $40 higher then I'm paying for my mustang right now, about $271 a month(no accidents, no tickets). Getting ready to move out to Denver. Girlfriend is not very happy in my choice of car, but it's better to ask for forgiveness then ask for permission. Was looking into a Z06 but they killed me with insurance over $600 a month. Also though about waiting a little longer and getting a C7 ZR1. I've been looking a new 2017 challenger Hellcats too, quoted at $299 a month for insurance. I live on my own, about 25 minutes away from campus, parents don't help at all, been on my own since I turned 18. And info would be great. Purchasing end of March.

This is coming from a male in his mid-30's. Girlfriend should have no say in it, because you'll likely have the car longer than her. Get the car you want, IF you can afford it (long term financial planning, etc). The girlfriend, on the other hand... That can be a lot more expensive in the long run. Stay single, and you'll never worry about what car you want to drive.

If it flies, floats, or xxxx's... Oh, and you'll need a second vehicle for the winter. Tried Denver during snow season in my C6. Wasn't particularly enjoyable.

Also, consider used. Buying new cars is a rich man's game.

Lastly, this isn't what you want to hear right now. I wish someone would have given me the advice when I was your age (I probably wouldn't have listened anyways). I'll just point you in this direction. Maybe it'll stick with you. http://wallstreetplayboys.com/1-mill...-zero-excuses/

Buy all the power you can afford because once you move to Colorado you will lose roughly 3% for every 1,000 foot increase in elevation. In Denver your car will be down 15% so that 436 hp turns into 370 hp at sea level.

You will definitely need a second car because you will experience some serious snow on occasion. Even more so if you head west on I70 in the winter.

I'm all for accommodating girlfriends, but unless she is paying for it, it's not her decision. If she makes it an issue get a new girlfriend.

If you're only 20 and can afford a new corvette you'll have more girl friends than you know what to with. Get the GS you won't regret it.

Not in your same category as I live in Florida and I have been married for almost 30 Years. If you can get it go for it. I just upgraded from a 2010 Coupe to a 2017 Grand Sport. What a difference. She was against it but i am 54 so .... For the money the Grand Sport gives you a lot. GO FOR IT

Get one. I just bought a new grand sport a week ago and am still breaking it in. It is an awesome car! I had a 2011 grand sport before this and this one is MUCH better in every single way and everyone looks at your driving it!

I wanted the 2LT but wound up getting a good deal on a 1LT with PDR and heritage package. I do not miss anything that I would of got with the 2LT. HUD is not needed because of the awesome 8" screen that displays almost any info you want.

Call an agent in Denver that represents your insurance company for a premium quote. When we lived in Colorado our rates were 35% higher than what they are in Tennessee.

I say go for it! Sounds like you are doing extremely well, especially at your young age. As far as the girlfriend goes...never ever let them dictate what you should buy or not buy! Hell, I am 63 and my GF gave me the ultimatum... "The Corvette or me?" Have the Corvette and she is on Match searching for her next victim!

Get the Grand Sport. And hey, I know the girlfriend isn't happy with it. Maybe she's holding out for you to get an Aventador!!!!

What kind of Mustang is it? Had any other performance cars?

Id want to make sure you are maxing out all retirement accounts, investing a lot outside of retirements too if you're only 20 and wanting to drop 70k on a sports car. If you have FU money, then go for it. You'll have to get a car to daily/winter and in Denver get some damn winter tires. Even in areas it doesn't snow often, they are so worth it.

Just be careful with the GS if you get one.

A boss I had was a bit tight with a buck. He had a nice Porsche that got driven to work occasionally, but most days an old Honda was the mode of transportation. It was one he purchased from a relative for $250 and he installed a $250 Japan take out engine to keep it going.

Had an employee who purchased a nice M5. Made a wrong turn one night and rearranged the front valance in addition to adding some nice road rash to the wheels.

Daily drivers get bashed. Beaters are inexpensive and less stressful to park at the local market and work lot. The hijackers don't follow you either.

Most cost effective car I ever had was a $200 Mustang that we drove for about 4 years and sold for $250.

Houses appreciate. A nice vintage ride might hold value or even appreciate a bit. Daily driver Corvettes/Mustangs/toys ..... not so much. Just a thought. Pat

If I could have afforded the car at 21 I would have owned one. Without help from parents one can only guess at how you have paid for school and still have 70K to drop of a new car, are you sure you want to bring attention to yourself?
As for a GS I love my car and have no regrets but wish I studied whatever you studied in College so I didn't have to wait until I was 50 to afford a loan to pay for it.

The girlfriend says no to the Vette. If the Vette could talk, it would say no to her. If a girl was contemplating a Vette purchase, her boyfriend would be like "DO IT DO IT!".

GS Corvette - Buy.
Girlfriend - Bye

Your story intrigues me on many levels. Best of luck with your new car no matter if it is a Grand Sport, or a ZR1 (just a hint, if you thought the insurance quote on a Z06 was rough the ZR1 will be a touch rougher. Sounds like your gf is a financial planner.
