Why, oh why???
The other day I was looking for information regarding a 2017 GS at the place where I bought my 2016 Z51. They had a LBR GS on their website but today the saleschick writes me to say that sadly, that one is sold.
Then she tells me that there are some other cars that might interest me and then shows a picture and description of a CAMARO and some DODGE.
I almost choked.
Why would someone think I'd want a CAMARO or a, God forbid, DODGE if I'm inquiring about a Corvette??
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming....

Because most sales people do not listen. They think as long as the are talking they are selling and it does not matter what they say as long as there is noise.

Because she is stupid. A smart salesman knows your a Vette guy. You have one and are inquiring about another one. It does not take a genius salesman of the year to figure it out. She is just plain dumb.

Shoulda jumped on it. Leaving a car you want on the lot is always a gamble. First guy who shows money wins.

Because you walked away from the Corvette. From her standpoint you rejected it. That was the end of your inquiry. Is it unreasonable for her to suggest some alternatives? I hope you informed her of her wayward ways so she doesn't make the same mistake again.

Not at all, it's logical.
She assumed he just wasn't into Vettes enough to make a purchase and hoped some other car on the lot might fit the bill.
I used to sell Fords at a large dealer. My experience is that salespeople are under pressure to sell something, the manager doesn't care what. We had strict procedures that the salespeople had to follow that would hopefully make a sale. Bottom line is do whatever it takes to sell a unit. Once you walk out, the opportunity is lost. She had to ask the question.
If she didn't, her manager would ask if she tried to "switch" you. She did her job probably knowing what your answer would be.
On other models, odds are, her methods might work.

Didnt walk away at all. I told her I'd bought my Z51 there and was interested in a GS. Maybe she didn't know those were Corvettes.
I saw the car online, sent an email to ask about it and by the time I heard back, the car was gone. That's a little different than being there, rejecting it, and just walking away.

That's great, but YOU DIDN'T SAY THAT ABOVE, did you? We can only react to what you initially provided as information, which included NONE of what you said above. I'm not a mind reader. The fact is, you left the car at the dealership and it was sold to someone else. Tough. And you're being a drama queen about the sales "chick" who was just trying to sell a car. Sheesh!

Too many of them sell aluminum siding one week, cars the next week, and refrigerators the week after that. I'm afraid the ones we see on the forum are rare birds. I once told a used car salesman I was looking for a Mustang convertible and it HAD to be manual transmission. When he called the nest week what did he offer me? You guessed it - sludge-o-matic. Word of mouth, especially on this forum, is the best way to find a good dealer/salesperson.

Perhaps I should have started my thread with a tongue-in-cheek icon. My title, Why oh why, was a little joke. Of course I meant no drama. Only poking a little fun at the saleslady trying to sell a Camaro or a Dodge to a dyed-in-the-wool Vette guy.
No offense intended and certainly no drama either. Sorry I may have not worded my OP with sufficient precision. Peace.
