I have a 2015 Convertible with 5000 miles on its third windshield. G.M. doesn't seem to want to do anything about it as I have getting the run around for a month now even while the local dealer admits to me that it is a frequent problem. I have taken the problem up to G.M. Customer Service but they don't appear to want to do anything about it either. How about a 'class-action' law suit. Wonder if that might get their attention. I know of at least three others in our club that have same problem. I am new to the forum so would appreciate your help.

What, exactly, do you suggest they do? The Corvette is low to the ground and is therefore more likely to take debris to the windshield. You seem to be particularly unlucky or you drive on really crappy debris filled roads. I just don't understand what your basis would be for a class-action suit.

I'm not clear from the OP how the windshields are breaking or why they were replaced. If it's from road damage, stuff hitting it while driving, etc., then I'm in the camp with the first two responses. But if there is something else going on to cause them to be replaced I think it would be good to share that level of detail.

Before I get any more crappy responses like this one, I guess I need to share more specifics. There are no chips, I don't live or drive on any crappy roads. I have owned seven others Corvettes, all about the same distance to the road. The crackes have all started from the top outside edge of the windshields, and tend to remain within the black shaded area. It is definitely a defect in either the car or the glass. (As I mentioned the dealer told me this is appearing to be a common problem).

Not much help here as that is the first I have heard of this problem. I have a 2015 Convertible with similar mileage and have not experienced any problems as you have.

Thanks big den, that provides some interesting insight. Sounds almost like you're describing a stress type of fracture to the glass, if it has happened in the same place each time that is kind of suspect. I haven't been on the forums a long time but I would try a slightly different technique.

Search the forums for similar sounding stories and contact those people via PM and see if you can confirm the similarity.

I would also make a post describing the type of cracks you've been getting and ask if others have had a similar experience.

Once I had that info I'd ask to talk to a regional service tech to discuss it with them and show them the data you have so it is documented. Keep good records, photos, etc.

If they do eventually acknowledge an issue you may be able to recover your expenses.

I would start with,who is installing them and who's glass our they using,if its the same people doing it,id get somebody else to put a real piece of GM glass in

Some of the other cracked windshield threads have noted there was a raised area (welding "slag" perhaps) on the frame causing the stress crack. When the windshield was replaced the first time the installer should have checked for this or other problems. Otherwise something else is putting stress on that area, maybe a slightly misaligned part that responds to heat/cool cycles and causes the crack under the wrong conditions. Clearly replacing a windshield repeatedly without addressing the problem is poor behavior by the dealer/installer.

I watch the forums daily and I have seen several posts about broken glass. I believe the problem most associated with this is the channel the glass sits in. It is not completely engineered smooth to accept the glass without some some metal touching the glass. I have read about cracked glass originating from inside the car on or near the edges. Happened to my brother in law also.

Give the OP a break he was simply trying to share his concerns.

Yea, this really sounds like foreign object trapped during install. Coupled with vibration and every piece of glass will shatter until the protrusion is removed or ground down.

Agreed, my upper passenger side crack appeared after 6k miles. no cracks in the replacements but the new issue is distorted glass in line of vision. Not sure which is worse.

Search for cracked windshields. I know there's at least one thread with pictures of cracks like you have.

almost 60k kms on my '14 and still original windshield, no cracks, no chips, sand pitted but so far so good and I live in the cracked windshield capital of North America, no salt all gravel during the winter. I've had a few high speed rocks hit the shield, some that I thought ohhhhh schit that's it but it has held up fine.

I have 15k miles on my 14 vert and no windshield cracks.

The ONLY winners in a class action lawsuit are the attorneys so don't go there.

I have 6300 miles on my car and the windshield is sand pitted and getting hard to see through when the sun hits it the right way.
