Black Brake Rotors?
About time for brakes on the Grand Sport...Sure would like to go with the slotted black ones but don't know much about them (pic)...will they stay black or will the black wear off?....Anybody try these?

The black will wear off where the pads hit them

If you want black rotors have them powder coated for a long lasting good look. the rotor face will always go back to bare metal unless you go to a ZR-1 carbon brake assembly. You can also spray paint them wit ceramic black caliper paint. Either way they will need to be removed from the car.

uhh...you shouldn't paint the rotor surface where the pads contact. When the paint wears off, it goes onto the pads. ANY foreign substance on the pads can compromise stopping ability and wear. Plus, the paint residue might trap coarse particles which will wear out the rotor quicker.
For the same reason, rotors that are allowed to rust regularly wear out quicker because of the transference of rust onto the pads.

They would make a good display for the garage, but really there's no way to make the paint on a friction surface last.
I get the feeling you may want these because you don't like the look of rust around the hub or in the cooling vent area. There's a couple ways to prevent this. Buy coated rotors, or don't drive the car through rain / water.

If you want your hubs to not rust, by all means paint the centers and along the edge. Any over spray onto the rotor contact area will disappear pretty much immediately without issue. But don't expect them to stay black on the friction area.

Thanks everybody......Looks like I'll stick with the regular rotors and be like everybody else...Kinda thought the black wouldn't last,I don't see how they can sell them that way knowing that the first time around the block all the paint would be gone.....Oh Well

Sounds like a waste of money.

Don't paint your rotors. That's asking for your brakes to not work as well as they're designed to. Powder costingcosting a layer of plastic on the surface, not good for brake rotors at all. And ceramic materials only work for brakes as carbon ceramic rotors, and need special pads and specially developed brake systems.
