Default Oil pan removal

I am removing my oil pan 1966/427. Need info on removing dip stick tube. I don't want to damage the tube. Am I correct having crankshaft balancer at 5 "o"clock position for oil pan removal

After removing the bolt in the exhaust manifold the dip stick tube will pull stright up. Might have to wiggle it around some peope put a dab of RTV to seal it.

I never can remember the balancer orientation to clear the crank throw but once the oil pan is loose your can probably see if the crank needs to be rotated. At 5 O'clock for the timing mark sounds reasonable as that should put the #1 & #3 piston down and the crank bob up ( I think). After dropping the idler arm from the frame and pulling the steering link bar down as far as possible (toe out the tires) mine came off without problem without messing with the crank. I may have been lucky.

I can confirm Dan's statement about the timing mark needing to be at 5 o'clock before removing the pan. In researching this topic a month ago, I found a thread where JohnZ said the same thing.
