Don't Hate, Appreciate

Opinions vary greatly on the subject of incredibly low-mile Corvettes. Some love 'em, anointing these survivors as important slices of automotive history. Others hate 'em, wondering aloud why anyone wouldn't want to drive a car built to do just that. But no matter how you feel about cars like this incredible 3k-mile C3 Corvette we spotted at Mecum Auctions, you just have to appreciate it for what it is.

Unsolved Mystery

Phrases such as time capsule and survivor get thrown around a lot these days, but this '72 Corvette really fits the bill. The only thing missing here is some sort of backstory as to why this C3 only managed to travel 3,267 miles over the last 46 years.

Laughing at Father Time

But perhaps the most impressive thing about this barely used Corvette is the fact that it remains in highly original condition. Clearly, the previous owner(s) kept it sealed away in some sort of climate controlled or fair weather storage because it's absolutely immaculate all these years later.

Time Machine

Look no further than the interior if you need any proof that this Corvette is essentially brand new and immaculately cared for. The seats barely show any wrinkles, the steering wheel has zero wear. Hopping in this cabin is akin to taking a time machine back to the early '70s.

Normal, but Special

Pop the hood, and you'll see more of the same pristine care. One can argue that a base 350 from this era is nothing special, and you'd be right. But that doesn't really matter given the condition and supremely low mileage it has traveled.

Only Original Once

The color combo on this beautiful C3 is something special, however, it was special ordered in Steel Cities Gray, with a black deluxe interior and top. And yes, those are the original tires. Though we wouldn't recommend driving on that 46-year-old rubber, it's pretty cool that they're still on the car.

Nicely Optioned

This Corvette does have some solid options, however. They include power steering and brakes, tinted glass, an AM/FM radio, and tilt and telescopic steering wheel.

Row Your Own

And it has a 4-speed manual transmission, which is always a nice find. Automatics might be the hot thing these days, but they were awful slow to shift back in this Corvette's era.

Award Winner

Thus, it's no surprise that this stunning Corvette has racked up some impressive accolades. They include an NCRS Top Flight and 4-Star Bowtie Award, as well as a cover feature on Corvette Restorer Magazine.

Truly Special

It might not have the rarest options or the most powerful powertrain. Heck, it isn't even the most desirable model year for the C3. But this Corvette has survived the ills of time better than most. And for that, it's extremely special in its own right!
