Ultra-Rare Harvest Gold 1955 Corvette Hits the Auction Block
If you've never seen a Harvest Gold '55, there's a good reason for that.
Rare Find
Rare is a word that gets batted around in the collector car world a lot these days, but it's difficult to actually define what constitutes its use. Is something rare if there are a few hundred of it, or perhaps a few thousand? Regardless of how you feel about that particular topic, it's clear that not a lot of Harvest Gold 1955 Corvettes were built in total, and this particular example is an enticing lot at Mecum's upcoming Indianapolis auction.

Uncommon Sight
For starters, GM made only around 700 Corvettes in total in 1955, and most of them weren't finished in Harvest Gold - just 120, in fact. That not only makes this car quite special but also worthy of a stunning restoration, which was just completed roughly 500 miles ago.

Perfectly Accented
This car's green soft top provides an interesting bit of contrast to the mustard-like yellow hue, which is further accented by 15-inch yellow-painted steel wheels with spinner wheel covers and Firestone Deluxe Champion wide whitewall tires.

Theme Continues
Inside, a corresponding yellow interior continues that theme and certainly looks no worse for wear fresh off a complete makeover. If nothing else, it's safe to say that the new owner should appreciate the color yellow if they want to add this rare Corvette to their collection.

V8 Power
1955 was the first year one could get a V8 in the Corvette, and this particular car is indeed equipped with GM's 265 cubic-inch mill, which was originally rated to produce 195 horsepower. It features a four-barrel carb and chrome valve covers and air cleaner and is mated to a Powerglide automatic transmission.

Award Winner
This very nicely restored and quite rare 1955 Corvette has gone on to rack up a couple of prestigious awards recently, including Bloomington Gold Certification and an NCRS Top Flight Award. Now, it's looking for a new owner, and it'll certainly be interesting to see just how much someone is willing to pay for this rare yellow machine.
