The owner of this 1963 Corvette split-window was just enjoying the event when his beloved car was taken from the parking lot.

Theft is a problem that unfortunately plagues many communities, and automotive theft – in particular – has been steadily rising for several years now. Over that time frame, we’ve seen more than our fair share of Corvettes involved in these types of crimes, whether that be via traditional theft, a carjacking, or even more bizarre types of incidents. But one thing we haven’t seen – until now – is a vehicle stolen straight from a car show, in the middle of the day. Unfortunately for a Michigan man, he became the first when his 1963 Corvette split-window coupe was taken from him at an event in Howell recently.

The owner’s daughter, Scout Sparks, posted the news on her Facebook page, asking others for help in tracking down the vintage 1963 Corvette split-window coupe. Incredibly, the car was taken right in the middle of the day – around 12:30-1pm – disappearing from the spectator parking lot at the Armor Great Pumpkin Classic Car Show at the Howell Airport while its owner was apparently walking around and scoping out all the cool cars there.

Unfortunately, they still haven’t found the old Corvette, though it was sighted this past weekend headed toward Pontiac and around M-59. Most recently, it was seen in the Detroit area, but since then, the family has had no luck. The silver C2 shouldn’t be terribly hard to spot when it is out and about, so there’s obviously some hope that it can be recovered.

A few days later, Sparks’ family began offering a $5,000 reward for any tips or information that lead to the Corvette’s recovery. It has fuel injection badging on the fenders, as well as a vintage plate reading YX1026, and a black interior. Sparks didn’t provide any other details about the car, but even in a car-crazed place like Detroit, it should still stick out from the crowd. With any luck, someone will see the split-window again soon, and perhaps it cab be recovered in good condition.
