You read correctly. We ran across an article on Digital Trends’ site that claims Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter said the 2015 Corvette Z06 could be the last new Vette. According to author Nick Jaynes, Juechter calmly stated that, “If we don’t get sales back up, there won’t be a next one,” when Jaynes inquired about the Z06.

However, it is unclear whether Juechter was referring to the Z06, the Corvette in general or if the Corvette would remain essentially unchanged for the foreseeable future. Frankly, with both the US and global economies improving we can’t imagine that this is anything but a sales tactic a la “buy it or we pull the plug.” But isn’t that always the case? Has anything really changed?

In my opinion, the Digital Trends piece was wanton click bait. Unfortunately, Jayne states, that Juechter was called away as soon as he uttered that apocryphal statement and couldn’t elaborate. I know I’m not worried about this nonsense– Corvette sales are climbing, the car has been received to critical acclaim, more critical acclaim and still more critical acclaim. No way Chevy pulls the plug on the Vette. Go home, Digital Trends! You’re drunk!
