GM Dealership Backs Down After Viral Post Reveals $90K Z06 ADM

Z06 ADM

It took an internet shaming, but dealership apologizes and agrees to sell Z06 at MSRP and not the $90K ADM they were hoping for.

Dealership asks for a massive Z06 ADM. In other news water is wet. It should surprise no one that the wildly popular and tough to get Z06 is being subjected to the dreaded ADM. But there is a letter making the social media rounds right now that shows just how heinous this business can be. Although this dealership did eventually back down, you can be sure that antics like this are being played out all across the country.

What we have here is a letter from Mac Haik Chevrolet in Houston, Texas. In this letter we can clearly see a couple of problems. Problem number one is that they are requiring a $6,000 non-refundable deposit to place the order. If for any reason the customer cancels, they are out $6K. OK, not the best policy but we will give them a pass. Problem number two is much worse. It states “Upon delivery of the 2023 Corvette to the customer, the $6,000 deposit will be applied as a down payment. Vehicle will be sold for $90,000 Over MSRP.” Ouch. That ladies and gentlemen is how you end up spending nearly $300K on a new Corvette.

Z06 ADM

Once the image of this letter hit the social media scene people lost their minds. And with good reason. The Z06 is a great car. But a $90K ADM is 85 percent on top of the base price of the car. The advantage of the Z06 is that it competes with the supercars of the world. But if you end up paying supercar money for it anyway, you are not really coming out ahead of the game. A lot of times the keyboard warriors of the internet can be annoying, but this is one time when they were fully justified in their harsh response back to Mac Haik Chevrolet.

After a full day of being raked over the coals the dealership reverses course. The General Manager is a man named Josh Potts. Potts sent a message via Facebook stating: “I understand and agree with how everyone feels. We didn’t intend to cause a problem. We will contact all customers that have orders the Z06 and lower it to MSRP. Thank you. We apologize for the trouble.” So, in the end it sounds like the dealership will do the right thing and sell these cars at sticker. Would they have done so if not for the outrage all over social media? Doubtful.

Don’t Pay It

ADM stinks. We have said it before, and we will say it again. Until people stop paying the dealers will keep trying to jam it down our throats. But as you can see from this experience buyers don’t have to be bullied. We need to stick together on things like this. The Z06 looks to be well worth the price. But paying double for something is almost never a good idea.
