Mid-Engine LS6-Powered C5 Corvette Kart

This Corvette kart is different from most thanks to its vintage F1 vibe and its owner’s sense of humor.

Corvette karts are certainly nothing new, as we’ve featured a number of nice ones and not-so-nice examples over the years. The premise of such a thing is simple – strip all the bodywork and unnecessary bits from an older, cheaper used Corvette, then go out and have fun. And in that regard, this mid-engine, LS6-powered C5-based Corvette kart built by Nick Yarbrough is certainly a ball of rolling entertainment.

Yarbrough has posted videos of his wild g0-kart in various places around the web, including his post here on Reddit, which got his build featured at Motor1. And he certainly got our attention, as his wild machine – dubbed C5F1 – is one of the coolest drift machines we’ve ever come across.

As for the car’s LS6 powerplant – which recently replaced the original LS1 – it’s mostly stock but does have a set of LS3 heads on top. In its current form, the modern V8 produces around 385 horsepower, which is more than enough to overpower the car’s Kenda Kaiser KR20A tires. Yarborough reports that the engine isn’t in the best shape, however, as it’s leaking from a variety of seals.

That’s of little concern when he smashes to go pedal, however. And when this awesome Corvette kart is doing its thing, it’s clearly worth every penny and long hour it took to put it together. Yarborough has even fitted a little bit of custom bodywork to the car, which gives it a vintage F1 vibe – hence the car’s nickname. It also makes it fairly unique in the wide world of Corvette karts.

As far as safety goes, well, that’s pretty vintage as well. Yarborough has a mere roll bar installed to protect his noggin in the event of the rollover, but no proper cage as of now. There is a harness to hold him in place, however, which is a good thing since there’s no bodywork to keep him from taking flight if things go south. Regardless, there’s a good bit of fun that goes along with danger, don’t you think?

Ultimately, Yarborough’s cool kart is one of the most unique ones we’ve come across, which is saying a lot considering how many there are floating around. And we’ll certainly be sticking around to see how the build progresses moving forward.
