This in-progress big block C2 Corvette restomod was sitting in the middle of nowhere, just waiting to be saved.

Barn find” is an oft overused term these days, used to describe every vehicle stored in any sort of manner for any amount of time. Thus, we wouldn’t exactly call this Nassau Blue big block C2 Corvette recently purchased by YouTuber Tyler Hoover of Hoovie’s Garage a “barn find,” but it is most certainly one heck of a great find, nonetheless.

As a former car dealer and current saver of “hoopties,” Hoover generally buys cheap cars that need love and then proceeds to spend sometimes exorbitant amounts of money and time fixing them up. But this big block C2 Corvette is a bit different than most of his purchases. Hoover’s friend was scanning for sale ads when he came across a great deal for an old Ford Mustang fastback, along with some other rides, which led to this incredible discovery.

Hoover was looking at pictures of a boat for sale by the same person when he noticed the 1966 Corvette coupe sitting in the background. Lo and behold, it was also for sale, and the price was “too good to be true,” according to Hoover. The only caveat? The car had been sitting for around four or five years, and it was located essentially in the middle of nowhere (Cuba) Kansas.

Regardless, Hoover and his friend took their trailers on a road trip to see if these cars were what they thought they were. And they most certainly were. The Corvette isn’t terribly original and has a modern 427 under the hood, so it’s more of a restomod, but a very nice one at that. The Tremec transmission isn’t hooked up yet, and it’s in sort of disarray, but not to the point where Hoover can pass it up.

“Obviously, it won’t move under its own power,” Hoover said. “But maybe we’ll just see if it starts, if it turns over.” The car does indeed “come alive” with the turn of a key, but the battery is clearly bad. Luckily, Hoover brought a new one with him, and that does the trick as the classic Corvette amazingly starts right up after sitting for years.

Despite the fact that it’s a project that needs some work, Hoover is obviously elated with his latest score. “Let me tell you, I know very well I am one lucky son of a gun, looking at that thing in my rearview mirror,” he says. And we’re just as excited as he is to watch this cool, forgotten C2 get the attention it deserves.
