Stick-Shift C5 Corvette Z06 Gets Into the 8s

By -

A parachute and a manual transmission advertise that this 2003 C5 Z06 is a force to reckon with.

Whenever you see a car that breaks into the single digits, you know a serious amount of work and money went into it. And when someone does it with a manual transmission, we have to give some serious props. This video gets straight to the good stuff, with some smokey burnouts and a solid pass that puts this 2003 Z06 into perspective. A 9.388-second pass at 155.40 mph in the quarter mile is darn impressive. Bravo, sir.

How does he do it? According to the video description, the Z06 packs a BTR 388″ solid roller engine with an F1-X ProCharger on top.

The ‘Vette is tuned by ShorTuning, a respected name in the forum, and also features DSS axles and prop shaft, a TR6060 synchronized six-speed manual transmission, and a Mantic triple clutch. That, and some of the quickest hand-eye-foot coordination we’ve ever seen.

The first car you see him line up against, a G-Body of some variety, looks like it’s standing still. The Silverado fares a bit better and gets the jump on the C5. That thing is quick too, which we see in the trap speed. Maybe all he needed was the right competition, since the last run netted him an 8.979-second pass at 155.85 mph. That’s fast enough to earn him the bragging rights for being the first (that we know of) C5 with a manual to break into the 8-second range.

To give you an idea how much faster this is, the stock C5 Z06 could finish the quarter mile in the 12.5-second range with a trap speed of 115-ish miles per hour. Mild bolt-ons, better tires, and lots of seat time would get you into the 11’s. How fast have you taken your manual C5 Z06? Let us know in the comments below.
