Default MRC question

Usually the spring and the damper are matched to be critically damped. With MRC you only change the damping not the spring rate. Can you theoretically have a perfect adaptive suspension only changing the damping, and only response time would be improved with ability to also change the spring rate? Also, would it negatively affect the MRC programming if I reduced un-sprung weight with lighter brakes and wheels.
