Default 6 point harness

Tadge
I'm looking for a reasonable solution to installing a 6 point harness in my new (on order) ZO6. Would like to be able to use the lap belt for regular use and the harness for the track. I will have a regular seats. Any thoughts or recommendations? May or may not offer one for the passenger depending on the cost. Thanks Daniel

Default track saftey

Hi Tadge, quick question ordering a z06 with z07 plus competition seats etc. is There no way to fit a racing harness securing bolts at the factory if you want to do some track days.

Regards Dave V.

For the factory competitive seats with two holes to be used with 5 or 6 pt harnesses, is there a safe way to secure the shoulder straps without having a roll bar or brey krause/shark bar? .... probably not....

While I'm sure there's lots of interest in this sort of topic, I hope folks realize that I can't send it to Tadge. Think through the liability of it thoroughly, before you respond to me.

I apologize, but this is one of those, "You're on your own, kid," sort of things. Companies like Vetteworks and Brey Krause make good solutions for what you're after. Look to them.

Perhaps Porsche has better lawyers, or they know more about building road cars to be used for fun on the racetrack. From the current GT3 RS brochure:

"Clubsport package.
Always pushing to the max and rarely
easing off. Experiencing the excitement
without suffering the anxiety. The limits
of dynamic driving performance obey
laws of their own. This requires superior
driving skills – and materials of superior
strength. The resilient Clubsport package
– standard in the new 911 GT3 RS

provides additional protection on the
racetrack. The ideal platform for
attaining sporty extremes.
The Clubsport package comprises a roll
cage bolted to the body behind the front
seats, a six-point racing harness in red
supplied ready to install on the driver’s
side
, a ready-to-install fire extinguisher
with mounting bracket and preparation
for battery master switch. This, and the
front roll cage elements for race events,
are available to purchase separately from
the Porsche Motorsport department."

So if Porsche can do it, why can't GM?

Or they've spent the (significant amount of) money to crash test and validate those safety options in the car on the street. Which is the kicker in all of these things. You'll note that everything in (and on) the Corvette is 100% FMVSS compliant. Including all of the safety and restraint devices. The expenses involved in adding track-style restraints to a car aren't just in the parts themselves. The car has to be submitted for another round of crash testing to validate compliance w/FMVSS. That's insanely expensive.

If we weren't such a sue-happy society, things could and probably would be a lot different. Asking Tadge about track restraints when they weren't OEM'd would be like asking him what engine modifications he'd think are OK to be covered under warranty. Hopefully it's obvious he wouldn't be able to answer either question.
