You could never hear the difference on that system anyway. High bitrate mp3 is far better than the current system has the ability to faithfully reproduce.
If they ever do add other formats, it will be in future year systems that will not apply to yours. Enjoy what you have. Its not changing.
I really bet you could hear the difference. IT's huge... MP3 just sounds flat. no presence at all. Lossless is better, but not as good as a good CD...
I'll bet money your ears wouldn't be able to pick up the difference between a high bit rate MP3 and a FLAC (for instance) on that system! And that's the point. The system doesn't have the fidelity to make it worthwhile.
I know exactly what the difference is and CAN hear very well. Hae very high quality equipment at home where its quiet and I can hear it. Its just that the OP is suggesting to play very high quality recordings on a medium fidelity system in a high noise environment.
And you would still hear the difference. It's really not that hard to put a decent quality sound system in a car.
In my MINI Cooper with the HK system, you can easily tell the difference between a CD and the compressed version. Ok, maybe not when screaming along at 6500 prm, but at traffic lights or other low stress times, you clearly can. Compressed files just sound wooden, and flat.
And I'd have to bet that the system in the Vette is at least as good as the HK in the MINI... (or maybe the old saying, "if it's BOSE, it Blows" is still correct?)
I don't know yet as I haven't gotten my car. It's being built next week.
