Remote Start in C5
I did my searching and came up with tidbits, but nothing solid, so here I am, no doubt asking something over again...but here goes..
Is it possible to wire a remote start into a C5? I have an 02, automatic. It's a h/c car so I'd really like to be able to hit the starter from inside the house to give her time to warm up before I hit the road.
I have come across threads in the past relating to this, and some folks were discussing difficulties about getting the remote start to work in a C5. I don't remember there being a resolution. So I thought I'd bring it up again. Is it possible and if so is there something tricky about wiring a C5 to remote start?
I'm looking at Viper and Clifford 2-ways w/ RS right now. Good prices these days. 1996man put up a post about alarms and my impulse buy neurons started firing. The wife will be pleased.
Thx!

Well, a C5 is just a car, you can put an alarm on anything, even a Sherman tank. Only problems you have with remote starts mostly are the standard tranny vehicles, for obvious reasons. You can just imagine a car with the clutch saftey switch disabled and the vehicle parked in gear when you hit the remote start. You'll have a new exit on your garage. I wish I knew more about the factory alarm in the newer vettes to help you out more. Im sure its just things you need to bypass or put relays on to accept the gadgets you want to work on it.
Heh, I did do a boo-boo once, while testing a starter kill on a astrovan with a standard tranny, the owner of the vehicle failed to tell me that he disabled the clutch saftey switch before I tested it. I turned the ignition over while the alarm was enabled, and to my horror (and the owner) the van drove thru his garage and removed a brick wall. Whoops.
the owner didnt get mad since he realized what he did. No harm done.

Actually, I'm glad no one got killed in that van install . I have a remote start in 3 of 4 vehicles I own. The Vette is a 6-speed but the hood has to be closed and the e-brake must be on for the remote start to work. Still, IMO it can be dangerous as I nearly took out both my legs in a very freak incident. It turns out the Vette's e-bake can't hold back 400 ftlbs of torque. Doh!!!!

Ya, I didn't think it was anything to do with it just being a C5. I thought the factory security system in a C5 had something to do with making remote start more difficult to install. If that's not the case then cool! I may be picking up a system soon.
Thx!

I can not see any reason there would be a problem installing a remote start on a C5. One of these days I am going to install mine in my manual tranny C5.

says it hooks into your current antitheft system which is nice but how far away does the remote work on ur stock C5 system? the remote doesnt work from that far away on my C4 system.
Ive tried changing the batterys a couple time but doesnt seem to do much good. Im still curious about that system though. for only 150 bucks and you dont have to have a different remote. sounds like a hell of a deal to me

For range and reliability you are better off going with a aftermarket alarm system.
snoopdan.....it is not possible to install a remote start on several of the new German cars.

contains module wires...everything required. I've used this on gm passcode keys works great.
