I recently got a pretty good deal on some kenwood. Got a pair of 6x9s and a pair of 4's. I put them in by just plugging them up to the original wires without changing anything else. I'm disapointed with the sound quality, doesn't sound any better than the stock speakers. Im using an aftermarket head unit as well.
I don't know anything about audio, so help me out here. Is this because of my speakers? Do the speakers need an amp to sound good?
Thanks in advance to whoever can help! BTW, heres the info on the stuff I bought
Head Unit: Don't know the item number but it's a Clarion DVD/WMA/MP3/CD player.
4"s: Kenwood KFC-1079ie
6x9s: Kenwood KFC-6969ie
the brief run down is that you can't just install new speakers, you have to get at least a new head unit too. the bose head unit doesn't power the speakers, they are powered by individual amps that run at 1 ohm, so the components are not compatable with just aftermarket speakers. most will adivse you to rip out the whole bose system (h/u, speakers, wire, amps) and put in a new h/u, speakers, wire, amps and subs at the same time (if you want subs)
that's okay...I forget stuff too.
I have owned Kenwood 4" and currently run Kenwood 6X9s in the rear of my S-15 Jimmy (just for rear passengers, daughter's friends). Both pairs of those Kenwoods suck, suck big time. The 4" were crap and the 6X9s sound no better than the factory speakers, and those were crappy 1991 Bose?? I will NEVER buy Kenwood speakers again.

Wow, I hope it's not the speakers. I should be able to return them if it is though. I'm having an audio guy check it out today, so he'll let me know.
Other fourum members told you not to do what you did. Purchase a small 4x25 or 2x50 amplifier, install a line level converter, and wire it to you new speakers. Then it will work fine. Otherwise, take them back, put in the bose, and live happily ever after.
