CD radio for 87 Corvette?
Does anyone know if there is a reasonably priced CD/Radio that will fit in an 87 Corvette with Bose? I'm aware of the expensive Mid-america unit, so that's not an option.........
Sometime back I read that there are other non-Corvette units that will fit the car, but I just can't remember which.

Dr Dons makes the cd for mid america , you can get the same unit from him for about$100 less. I have a bose cd player from a buick that i bought to go in mine - works and fits but face place sticks out about 3/8 more than stock init. if you can live with that I will sell it with adapter kit for $100.. I went ahead and bought the one from mid america (before I found about the doctor don discount)
The Pioneer DEH-P47DH is will fit perfectly; the DEH-P77DH also has three sets of pre amp outputs, though I'm not sure if they are compatable with the Bose amps.
The P47 is available for about $200 and the P77 should be around $250.

Here is my Pioneer DEH45-DH...you can get one on eBay for about 80-150.

Its a sturdy little deck...Can even run the original bose odd ohm stock speakers if needed, and runs them very loud.

Got a new Pioneer P47DH and recommended Scosche interface unit and brought it to the experts for installation. I watched the entire production, and it was a production. This install is not for the quesy novice.
First of all, you must remove a lot of the dash to get to the old unit.
You also need to cut down some plastic in the back of the dash to get the unit mounted flush.
The unit was tested before final mounting and the right half Bose speakers did not function. The Scosche interface unit was removed and all of the speakers worked. HOWEVER, there was a loud HUMMM coming from the speakers. The more powerful Pioneer unit aparently does not interface well with the almost 20 year old Bose units.
To solve, had to remove the Bose speakers, rewire and replace, in this case with larger Kenwood units. The other thing they dont tell you is that the antenna needs an adapter. Perhaps thats because the antenna is not an original but a Mid-America replacement.
Time to replace everything........4 hours......install and parts cost
$185 for the P47, $50 for the Scosche, $150 for labor (cheap) and
$200+ for the Kenwoods.
Also, we could not start the car after all the work....first, the battery was dead, second, somehow the VATS security system kicked in despite the bypass I previously installed. That was solved in about 20 minutes.
However, the new unit sounds great and looks perfect, and so do the Kenwoods which are hidden under the stock speaker covers.
So think twice about weather you want to change a perfectly good running original!
