Just bought a XM Roadie 2 , I know cheap but I did not want to lay out a bunch of cash on something I might not like. I will probably mount the receiver by the passenger side left knee area (right side of center console) does anyone have any ideas as to whwere to put the antenna so I get decent reception and is relatively discreet?
I had an XM Commander in my 2004 Comm. conv. The antenna was placed on the passenger side dash in the extreme right corner. It worked very well and did not drop off as others had experienced. I live in the northeast of the USA and reception was fine.
I mounted my antenna under the rear window tray trim
to the left of the latch (looking from inside) I first glued
a small thin steel plate, then glued the antenna to it.
it is invisible & the reception is very good.
A lot of people have had good results by taking out one of the brake light fixtures and attaching the antenna to the inside of the rear fascia or on the bumper with double sided tape. You can run the antenna into the cabin without drilling any holes by putting it through the pressure relief flap behind the drivers side rear wheel.

That's where mine is located. With the body being composite there is no worry about reception. Signals are crisp and clear.

Thanks, guys, I posted a dupe thread with the same question, this is all good info. Do you think the composite body is the reason all these different inside mounting points work? Or is the caution about the antenna having to be outside the body just not so important? If I could put the antenna inside the body in my DD it would be a whole lot simpler, too. Just wondering.
I ended up putting my antenna in the "gutter" of the trunk under the lid (vert or frc)....you know....the drainage area you see when you open the deck lid right outside of the weatherstripping. As a plus, it is magnetic...so the antenna sticks as it should...and doesn't show at all from outside. Great reception so far.
