I thinking of adding a powered bazooka sub to my C5 coupe. I plan to keep the stock system for now, just looking for more thump. Should I get the 10" or 8" sub? I want to be able to mount the top in the back. Where's a good place to buy the sub? Thanks!
MIKE
You can actually purchase a Bazooka locally at a Wally World. Ive seen the amplified 4x25 x 50 8" version on sale there, and was shocked at the $120 price.... In my 7 or so years owning many types of SAS Bazooka tubes, Ive found really the only difference between the 10" and the 8" is that the 10" has a little lower extention, and have equal amounts of port noise at FS....which is about normal for a transmission line enclosure...They try their damnest to be effecient....and a good starting bang for the buck. Both size tubes allow the top of the car to be put in the hatch. But all in all, if you are gonna do it, get the 10" if you dont mind dropping the extra cash for it. Either way, its still a cheap solution. Its really the only SAS product id admit I own. And I have a couple of their amps ;P
Heh, I have an EL8 that I dont even use, I just keep it around for an emergency back up sub. Paid 30 on ebay for it.....good cheap investment.
Don't go with one of the immitators. Make sure you get the SAS Bazooka tube. I had a 6 1/2" in the rear of my 93 and then upgraded it quickly to the 10". 6 1/2" just didn't have enough umph.
The tubes are great and very efficient. I used to compete in stereo competitions in the early 90's in a Camaro and ran 1 - 10" Bazooka tube with 70 watts of power from an Alpine amp (also had Boston Acoustic speakers and another Alpine amp, total vehicle wattage was 220 watts) and could hit 132 dbs. They can hit hard.
This is sort of a dead thread now, but I for what its worth, I had a JBL 8" tube and that thing was a little bit better sounding than the SAS 8"... The JBL has a little less port noise, and really is a completly different enclosure design than the SAS tubes. The SAS tubes are acutally a stuffed transmission line box, while the JBL's are just good ole' vented with a round port. The model of the tube I used was a JBL GT8...its been superceeded by their newer line which looks like a flux capacitor
Forget the bass tube. Get a JL Audio Stealth Box.
Thats what I have in mine and it rocks. Plus you don't see it. All you see is the amp they mounted to the rear of the car.
It hits like a bass tube.
