Default Kicker speakers

Hi all, the shop is recommending Kicker speakers for replacement of my wornout bose. Has anyone had experience with these?

I'm thinking of 05KS65 (6.5 2-ways) up front and 05KS693 (6x9 3-ways) in back. Being a Convt. I'm looking for something that will sound reasonably good. Any recommendations? The HU's rated at 180 Wts.

Did they bother to mention the little problem you'll have with incorrect impediences to the speakers from the bose amp? What kind of "shop" are you refering to, and what year of car do you have?

Default Kicker

It’s a pretty reputable Audio shop that claims to have done a few Vettes before. They want me to bring my 90 vert in so they can see what’ll fit. Kickers are their top line brand. My HU is a Clarion DXZ535. In past dealing with them, I’ve been pretty happy with the results. So, I trust them on this to a point. The more info I have when I walk in, the happier I’ll be.

I got some news for you, your head unit puts out no where near that in RMS. Clairon lists this as 17 watts RMS/52 peak x 4 channels, so you'll need a hearing aid to hear your kick panels with the top down. If they havent suggested an amp by now, walk away. Kicker hasnt been ever known for their componants, and ive not seen many people use them, unless they were sponsered by Kicker, and then...well DUH. I mean, they're OK for a car that has little engine or exhaust noise in the first place, Lets say, a honda civic. But with the top down, yer gonna need at least a small 2x75 or 4x50 amp, depending if you get all new speakers for the front and back or not. Back speakers in a coupe c4 a are about as pointless as them in a vert, but the extra noise from the rear does help a little with the top down, so that'll be your call if you want to upgrade the rear speaks.

Have you looked at any online speaker sources? If not for the products themselves, maybe at least just to look around.

Im not suggesting these, allthough ive heard nothing bad about them.

they're ok just to look thru their stuff and see what you like. And might help with your choice perspective.

hope ive helped. maybe i havent ... I tried.

I agree with snoop... the SQ of Kicker components is questionable at best.

And 17watts per channel ain't gonna drive much.

You will need an amp. That's a given. And a kicker ain't the best choice either!

Anything will sound better than a worn out bose speaker. In my friends car with a bose system we replaced his speakers with some rockford fosgate. Sounded amazing without changing amps and rewiring everything. To get good sound there is no need to pay all this extra money. Ofcorse the more you do, the better it will sound, but just changing speakers, you will hear the difference.

x2 on the first part, but i'll personally vouch for the acoustics and road noise in a vert is horrible, and more is definately better. Im guessing that the speaker he did replace it with was a coaxial though...and he had a hard top. Makes a hell of a lot of difference having the top of the car on, and having the coupe back glass.

But you're right, anything is better than a bose rotting.

Kicker amps are actually pretty good, they make all the power that they claim to but IMO they are ugly as hell

Have you ever installed one? "you better be able to back it up. products without using/hearing them first and not explaining yourself is not helping people, if you are going to make such a claim you better back it up with something "

Default kicker

The audio shop dropped Alpine a couple years ago in favor of the Kicker's. You're right, it may just be a better deal for them. I stopped by another shop last night and checked out Crossfires. They sound amazing. And, I'll probably will have to go with an amp.

Thanks for all your help.
