Recommendations for my C5 convertible
I already ripped out my Bose stuff and put in a system a while back. I dropped in an Alpine MP3/CD/XM ready deck, ran two Alpine 10" subs that (at the time) seemed like the best mix of dollar value / thump / sound quality, had some Boston 3 way speakers up front, and MBQuart 2 way speakers in the back. My subwoofers were run out of a custom fiberglass enclosure in the main well at the back of the car.
Yes, my car was the Heinz 57 of car audio...
I never built custom baffles for my front speakers and my rear speakers never fit quite right. My fronts would get pretty muddy unless I turned the bass down, and they had giant crossover boxes which were hard to conceal near the speakers. My rears also sounded a little "tinny" (not tiny) for my tastes. Other than that it was a pretty good setup.
I am thinking about redoing some of these pieces, and am looking for recommendations on front and rear speakers. What kind of speakers do the VRUMVRUM baffles accomodate?
Also, if there are any really nice setups out there for MP3/WMA playing, I am really interested. Kenwood had a music keg out there for a while which was nice because you could take the removable hard drive and just copy things onto it from your computer -- but none of the "high end" deck makers seem to have anything like that (Alpine used to have a deck with a built in hard drive, but I think they discontinued that deck).
I am happy with my subs so I don't want to make a change there, but I am thinking about building a custom box that will go right behind where my convertible top drops into. I am also thinking about putting my rear speakers into that box so that they can operate in their own enclosed air space instead of operating free air. I would probably also go with a 3 way setup at that point. Has anyone done this before on a convertible?
