Hi i picked up a new 30 gig Ipod photo, and starting to think about spring and getting the car out =).
First question for people using ipods are you using wireless or is there a easy way to wire it in. I heard something about if you don't have a cd changer using that output jack or something.
I also want to add a sub and amp, i have a 04 vert. I don't want to redo anything else at this time because i think i will end up trading up for a new vert next year. I would like to do maybe a L7 12 or something. Any suggestions on a good sub and amp to toss in the back?
there are a few aux interfaces for the bose system, pac-audio makes a unit that will allow you to control it through your stock radio (i think it's pac-audio)
if you do have a cd changer do a search for the inexpensive aux input....a $20 mod will get you aux inputs on your bose unit
For a sub and amp, i have an image dynamics 12" sub in a stealth box and a phoenix gold titanium amp and it kicks really hard, to the point where i feel air rushing by me when i listen to bass heavy music. FREAKIN' COOL!
I was thinking of going with a Kicker L712 and maybe the L712 box from subthump.com. If i went with this setup can you recommend a good amp to drive it?
Also did you do anything to soundproof your trunk?
i haven't yet, my project has taken a huge chunk of my time so the sound proofing will have to be last. it doenst rattle that much and the fiberglass panels help that too i bet.
I'm not a big fan of the kicker line but a lot of people are happy with them. The jl line has a great high end line that you should look into and if you want a great sub at a great price, look at the pioneer premier spl2000 sub (or 2000spl) do some research and you'll find great reviews from the magazines and you'll also find it for under $140 on ebay. Talk to subthump about a box for this since it'll need some extra mounting depth.
Since you are going with just a sub get a nice mono amp maybe the jl 500.1. i haven't heard this one yet but a lot of the reputable pros on here recommend it. I'm using 2 channels (out of 4) bridged on my phoenix gold titanium amp pushing a 2 ohm sub and i couldn't be happier. You may want to look into that line of amps as well.
a nice chap rfhayes sent me a second unit he had - its an ipod2car (they have been bought out i think and resold now or maybe its the otherway around)
another product soon to release is the monster icruze click here
its supposed to be simpler and more compatable .. but i just cant wait to get my cable conversion harness for the ipod2car he kindly sent me
I have the JL Audio 500.1 and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! The thing puts out WAY MORE than 500 watts. My 500.1 could hit my buddies 2 12" JL W6's harder than his 1300 watt Jensen. The amp is AWESOME.
I have an 04 vert also. I just had the Ipod2Car installed. So far it works fine. Mounted it in the center console with about a foot of extra cable so I can change albums while driving. I also had a JL Audio Stealth Box Installed with a JL 10W3 sub. This enclosure kicks butt. Powered it with a MTX 311D which fits nicely in the side back compartment. The JL Stealth box also comes with a new Cover that hides the sub. It has a screen built in to the cover to allow the sound to go thru. So you cant even tell I added anything at all with the covers on. Im impressed with the sound. I also added Memphis Pr Series tweeters in the door spkrs. All of this together sounds the way a vette should have sounded to begin with. Im using the stock head unit by the way.
All in all a great addition for the car and still looking stock.
Here's the $20 solution mentioned above. I posted the link in the past and its gotten much attention. And the price...you should be able to get the relay and switch for about $10...
