I'm looking to install a car pc in the vette, etc. main reason is i want to have a media system in my car, as well as afew other things. Mainly, want to setup a usb camera or two in order to record trips etc in digital format.
The only thing I wanted to know is if anyone know's a good way to install the hard drive in a way that it won't die everytime you hit a pot hole etc?? if anyone know's of cases like that already made or any good ideas, please let me know.

Thank you,

mount it vertically and solidly so the plates dont crash against each other when you hit a bump. (maybe use a stiff shock absorbing rubber but nothing that will lead to oscilations of the plates which will kill the hard drive faster then an average pothole.)
compact flash to ide converter so you can load OS onto compact flash card. was talking to a coworker today and just found out they had adapters for that.
So i'm probably going to do that and wind up connecting my ipod or something to it for when I want music and to store files like video's etc =] im happy now lol!!
you could do that too, but I'd still throw a harddrive in there. It's always nice to have. What would you do about navigation and other applications? load those on your ipod as well?
nah, i'd prob have a hard drive also, but not store the o/s on it. i just want to read up on how other ppl are doing it so they dont fry because new york streets reallly suck so :p
My friend just pointed me to the site i wanted though, www.mini-itx.com has different how-to's on pretty cool projects (not just car relateD) with really small mother-boards and custom cases .... about 70-90 bucks for a nice , very small mobo and cpu (800mhz).
thanks does look interesting ... but im still toying with the idea of either using windows or linux / unix =] I'm still not sure if I want a custom built box or something pre-made..
