Default C5 CD Changer Harness

I just got the PAC iPod adapter and was told that the 2002 C5s have the cd-changer wie pre-run. Does anyone now if this is true and where I can find the end to plug into(where the factory cd changer is connected, if equipped)? Thanks

if the car did not come from the factory with the 12 disk CD changer installed then you will need the harness, the connectors for the harness are located in the passenger side footwell.

Thanks for the reply. I looked under the access panel and did not see a connector there. This is where I hard-wired my V1. The PAC unit said it is in the trunk, but I couldn't find it there either. Could it be under a different panel in the footwell or trunk? Thanks in advance.

The GM harness (if equipped with a CD changer) connects in the passenger footwell and runs to the CD changer. The Passenger footwell connector ends are installed in all C5's (lower right of the fuse box), but you will have to install a GM or aftermarket harness to be able to connect the PAC unit.

Thanks again. I have the Aux10 cable from PAC that has a big white end. So do I need another cable to plug into the cd changer port in the footwell? Also, what does the plug in the footwell look like? THanks again guys for all your help.

My understanding is you don't need the CD changer harness "technically", however, you will need to modify one end of the AB-GM10 harness (the harness that attaches to the iPod adapter and has the big white plug at one end) by moving wires/pins around. The instructions that came with my iPod adapter also mention cutting the plug. I didn't want to tango with this idea so I chose to purchase a CD changer harness ($40.00) here:

CD changer harness (same place I bought my iPod adapter from)

See these threads on the other forum for useful info as well pics that I posted that show where the port connectors are located in the footwell.

I would double check to make sure that you don't already have the CD changer harness installed from the factory. You mentioned you checked already but I would make absolutely certain!! My understanding is that most C5's (excluding the Z06) are pre-wired; it will save you some $$$ and hassles. Using the CD changer harness makes this setup pretty much plug-n-play!! I would imagine since the CD changer mounts in the middle section of the rear cargo area, that the CD changer harness (if factory installed), would be tucked under the carpeting somewhere...look real close cause I had a heck of time locating one of the port plugs in the passenger footwell (it was taped up against a wiring harness and was virtually hidden from view)...good luck!!

LarryW,
Thanks alot That is exactly the information I was interested in. I will move and check the car again tomarrow(I can't really get to the passenger footwell because the car is in "winter storage" mode against the wall of the garage. Once again thanks for all the help everyone, this is what makes CF great.

Silver2002,

You're welcome and good luck!! This is definitely one mod that is worth every penny IMHO!! And again, if you use the CD changer harness, it is all plug-n-play and can easily be reverted back to stock form.

The problem I have now is what to listen to on the iPod!! I bought the 40GB model and so far I have it filled up halfway with about 4000 songs

Whenever I get into the Vette and fire it up, it takes me a few minutes to figure out what to listen to....

Oh and I know what you mean about winter storage mode and not being able to access the passenger side very well; it was raining when I started making the cable connections in my Vette so moving my clean Vette out onto the driveway was not an option . Due to my garage size, I have to back my Vette in in order to get two vehicles in the garage so opening the passenger side door is not really possible. I spent the whole time on my stomach laying across several blankets draped over the center console reaching down into the passenger side footwell area! It was a lot of fun
